I did a shallow dive into potential offenders for the heats-semis-finals WR break and it looks like John Hencken sort of did it in the 100 breast in Montreal 76. He tied his WR in the heats then broke it in semis and again in finals. Possibly missing stuff; didn’t look too closely.

I have not kept up with the SwimSwam comments this past week due to work travel so I’m sure I sound like a broken record but what a truly incredible week and year G. Walsh has had! To go from seeing her disappointment in 2021 and then hearing about all the work she’s been doing both mentally & physically the last 3 years. To now.. seeing her rewrite history in SCY, SCM and LCM is so inspiring. Especially for a washed up 35 year old mother. She’s showing our future generation how it’s done both in and out of the pool. I don’t think she would be doing what she’s doing without the adversity she’s had and the reflection she… Read more »

Not only breaking the world record in prelims, semis and finals. But breaking it in each of the first 3 times she ever swam the race in short course meters. Thats not likely to happen again. Would have to be an American to not have swam scm and then one that had huge improvements in a short period of time to not have made a previous team and still be able to break records.

I think the only chance is for an international swimmer to come to the US and destroy some yards records. While they’re not world records, it’s probably the closest thing we would get being 99% of the outside world hasn’t sniffed a yards pool. Even then, I have a tough time thinking of someone who could ‘easily’ break one of our yards records.

You could argue Marchand, but he was training yards and in the college system. It’s not quite the same thing as what Walsh did.

Virginia was training almost exclusively meters for most of the season. They were ready for this meet

About 50% of their training since August has been in short course meters, to the point that they even drilled new holes so they could make the pool SCM.

SCM translates so much easier to both SCY and LCM. I loved it when Summer rolled around and we had access to the local outdoor pools which were SCM. Never even had to worry about LCM training and found a lot of success in LCM competition.
