May be late to the party on this, but a US women’s 200 MR (hitting their best times and ~0.1 relay starts) would have placed 15th in the MIXED 200 MR and missed the final by just over a second…

Consider 1970 AAU Nationals at Los Angeles Colosseum Pool(LCM). No 50s, no mixed relays and no national teams for relay records (Los Angeles Athletic Club still broke 4×100 Free ) but there were many events with multiple people breaking existing WR.

Men:
Spitz 100 Free, one of 4 under 200 Fly Hall, Burton, Ferris
Kinsella 400 Free, 1500 Free (Burton under both, per memory)
Stamm 200 Back
Hall, Sr. 200 Fly, 200 IM, 400 IM
LAAC (Havens, Heckel, Weston, Frawley) 4×100 Free

Women:
Meyer 400 Free
Alice Jones 100 Fly, 200 Fly (I believe 4 under, including Jones, Lyn Collela, Karen Moe and maybe Ellie Daniel)

The USA Swimming Federation has serious issues to address with the current domestic male landscape. The male contingent of USA Swimming failed to qualify a swimmer in the final of the M 50 BK, M 100 BK, M 50 BR, M 100 BR, M 50 FL at the 2024 Short Course World Championships. That’s not encouraging for the future of men’s 4 x 100 meter medley relay (LCM, SCM) let alone the men’s 4 x 50 meter medley relay (SCM).

This is one of the worst comments I’ve ever read here. Not only is it written in the style of how a sci-fi writer from the 1980s imagined AI would talk, but it’s also ignorant of the fact that this meet was low priority for many swimmers and low priority for USA swimming, given they didn’t bother with any kind of special qualifying procedure. And even though this commenter has been corrected numerous times already on this, they keep forgetting that the 4 x 50 medley relay is no longer contested. And even if it was, who cares.

take out ponti & the russian medley relay & every world record was broken by US swimmers / US based swimmers. to me that says swimming fans don’t get to see the best US based talent race nearly enough short course metres.

In addtion, not enough female post graduates participated at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup:

Berkoff, K.
King, L.
Madden, P.

Based on the results at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup (K. Douglass, R. Smith), the competition provides tremendous preparation for the 2024 Short Course World Championships.

I mean Ahmed Hafnaoui should not be training with anyone in the international swimming scene anyway, since he is currently suspended by World Aquatics.

Thoughts on Ponti winning with an old fashion turn back to breast in 100 IM?

Great meet for M-S Harvey… she got 4th three times in this one meet. Anyone else ever done that? (great she did actually get an individual silver and bronze too.)

Thoughts on 200’s not having semi’s? Were medals from slower heats in distance events a +ve or a -ve?

No semis for 200s. 100%. I think most swimmers would prefer that too.

The 200 free is an exception. The fields are too deep for both men and women not to have semis.
