NC State Adds Verbal from “Best of the Rest” Chase Mueller for 2023-24

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Chase Mueller from Littleton, Colorado has announced his verbal commitment to North Carolina State University’s class of 2027.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to NC State. This is the perfect fit for me athletically and academically, and appreciate this opportunity to become a member of the Wolfpack.”

A junior at Columbine High School, Mueller swims year-round with Foothills Swim Team. Since we first ranked him as one of the best backstrokers in the class, in the “Best of the Rest” section of our Way Too Early list of top recruits from the high school class of 2023, he has improved by 1.6 seconds in the 100 back and by 4 seconds in the 200 back. In December, he competed at Speedo Winter Juniors-West in the 100/200 free, 100/200 back, and 200 IM and notched PBs in all five events. Moreover, he placed 3rd in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 back, 4th in the 200 free, 13th in the 200 IM, and 23rd in the 100 free.

  • 200 back – 1:42.09
  • 100 back – 47.64
  • 200 IM – 1:47.80
  • 200 free – 1:35.52
  • 100 free – 44.59

In long course season, he competed at U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 200 back and finaled (12th), earning a PB of 2:02.64 in prelims. He improved that time to 2:01.76, and picked up five more LCM bests at Austin Sectionals in July. There, he finished 9th in the 50 free (23.73), 3rd in the 100 free (51.28), 4th in the 200 free (1:53.55), 3rd in the 100 back, 2nd in the 200 back, and 3rd in the 200 IM (2:05.75). He also went a best time in the 50 back (26.36) leading off the FST relay. His best 100 back time (an Olympic Trials Wave I qualifying time of 56.21) came from the TOPS Last Train to Omaha meet in May.

Mueller’s verbal gives the Wolfpack their seventh commitment for the class of 2027. Mitchell Ledford (“6), Will Heck (#10) Hudson Williams (“Honorable Mention”), J.R. Taylor (“Best of the Rest”), Henry Lee, and Sam Flack have also announced their intention to swim for NC State in the fall of 2023.

His best 200 back time would already score in the A final at ACC Championships, while his 200 free time would make the B final. It took 47.50 in the 100 back, 1:46.94 in the 200 IM, and 43.81 in the 100 free to get second swims at the 2021 conference meet.
