Mt. Lebanon Aqua Club, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is in the process of hiring up to a Full-Time, Associate Head Coach. MLAC has 250+ swimmers on the roster and operates out of Mt. Lebanon High School (short course) and Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center (long course).

Job Description:

This position is designed to assist and support the Head Coach with the day-to-day wet side operation of Mt. Lebanon Aqua Club. Under the direction and guidance of the Head Coach, the Associate Head Coach will lead and direct the age group competitive swimming program which includes several salaried lead coaches, hourly assistant coaches, and some volunteer coaches. This is a leadership position that will support and carry out the vision, values, and behaviors of MLAC through leadership, development, and setting the direction of the age group program. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Planning and running in-water workouts for a group of 20-30+ swimmers.
  • Assisting in coaching all groups as assigned by the Head Coach
  • Assisting in planning and executing team events
  • Handling administrative details, including parent communication, meet entries for respective groups, and supervision.
  • Attending and coaching at all swim meets for respective groups
  • Assisting in coaching morning and afternoon/evening practices as assigned by the Head Coach

Key MLAC Associate Head Coach Responsibilities:

  • Designing and executing the seasonal plan for the age group swimming program
  • Providing leadership and instruction to the age group swimmers and their coaches
  • Conducting parent meetings as needed
  • Ensuring regular communication with parents at the age group level
  • Ensuring administrative and coordination needs and requirements are met both internally and externally for age group swimmers.
  • Overseeing age group meet entries and attend meets as required.
  • Maintaining compliance with USA swimming coaching standards
  • Ensuring all age group coaches are following USA Swimming policies including SafeSport

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years NCAA swimming experience
  • All USA Swimming Coaching Requirements or the ability to obtain these certifications before starting the job.
  • 10 years coaching experience
  • 3 years supervisory experience

General Responsibility:

The Head Diving Coach collaborates with the coaching staff on all facets of the diving program, including but not limited to administrative work, team travel, weekly practice sessions, advising of student-athletes, and compliance with NCAA and NEWMAC conference rules and regulations. This position also assists with recruiting and alumni stewardship. The head diving coach works closely with the Mary Frances Wagley Head Coach of Swimming and Diving to create the best possible experience for MIT student-athletes.

Essential Duties:

• Lead a high quality, nationally competitive varsity diving program that is challenging, well organized and administered based on sound coaching techniques and instructional strategies. These duties include but are not limited to:

• Coaching: Plan season, weekly and daily training plans to help advance diving skills. Collaborate with Sports Performance staff on sound and effective lifting program for the divers.

• Advising: Communicate weekly schedule to team and coordinate alternate practices for student-athletes with academic conflicts and/or injuries. Provide opportunities for goal setting and video review as needed throughout the season.

• Recruiting: Assist in recruiting academically qualified student-athletes to a highly selective STEM institution

• Administration: Maintain team records, manage diving software, and send appropriate results to DAPER, NCAA and NEWMAC offices. Adhere to regulations associated with MIT, conference, and national governance regulations at the NCAA Division III membership level.

• Other: Perform other duties as assigned by head coach and/or department head/director of athletics.

Time Commitment:
The in-season period operates from September through end of March. During that time, the position requires approximately 15 hours per week of coaching (6 x 2-hour workouts with responsibilities on the weekend for meets), practice development, student-athlete mentoring, and other duties as assigned. Practices are mostly in the evenings, with competitions occurring mostly on the weekend. Outside of the competitive season, the diving coach has minimal responsibilities outside of assistance with recruiting and team events as necessary.

Supervision is received from the Mary Frances Wagley Head Coach.

Supervision Exercised:

Collaborate on the supervision of volunteer coach(es)

Annual Review:

Annual Review process includes metrics from student-athlete evaluation, self-evaluation, and administrator’s evaluation.
