Westfield Aquatics, formerly Viper Aquatics, located in Westfield, Indiana (northside of Indianapolis Metro area) is seeking a Head Age Group Coach with excellent leadership, communication, team building skills and technical expertise. The Head Age Group Coach will work with the Head Coach to manage the operation of the team and will be supported by a staff of assistant coaches, as well as a volunteer Board of Directors.  This position will require approximately 20 hours on deck coaching and 5 hours of administrative work per week.  Additional hours will be required on meet weekends.

Westfield, Indiana, is a fast-growing community of 37,000 in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. In addition to an established age-group program of 130 swimmers, we also offer a growing Masters and pre-competitive swim lesson feeder program. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the swim program for competitive swimmers ages 14 & under.
  • Create a safe, friendly, positive and productive athletic environment.
  • Supervise coaching staff and maintain presence on deck for evening practices.
  • Develop and coordinate annual and seasonal plans inclusive of swim meets, team building activities, parent communication, and milestones for each group.
  • Work with the Head Coach to develop and maintain age-appropriate dry land programs.
  • Attend swim meets that include the participation of swimmers that you coach, additionally as needed by the Head Coach.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, coaches, and swimmers and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with pool management at both locations (Westfield-Washington Schools).
  • Coordinate meet information, meet entries, meet results, meet publicity, and team travel.
  • Embrace our unique culture that values high school swimming, college swimming and our local neighborhood programs.
  • Actively promote Westfield Aquatics and the sport of swimming in the Westfield community.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen or currently eligible to work in the US, must be in good standing with all USA Swimming safety and background check requirements.  ASCA level 2 or equivalent preferred.
  • Club coaching experience with a variety of age groups preferred.  Strong personnel management skills, administration abilities, and swimming technical expertise is a must.


Compensation:

Pay will be commensurate with experience $20,000-22,000 per year.  Additional incentives tied to the success and growth of the program can be offered.  In addition the possibility of running our lesson program may be available to the right candidate.

MOR is looking for an enthusiastic, organized and driven individual to manage our new facility at Silverton in Cary, NC. and coach the MOR swim team at this site that will be starting from scratch. There are 10,000 swimmers in the local summer league with multiple summer league teams in close proximity of the Silverton Site to draw from.

The Successful full-time candidate should be an accomplished swim coach able to work with ages 8-U –13-14, have pool management skills, CPO license, good people skills, self discipline, and a good team player. They will also be responsible for initiating swim lessons program, and overseeing masters swimming and other aquatic programing. Candidates should have a college degree and all required USA Swimming certifications and pass USA Swimming Background screening. Only individuals who currently reside in the US should apply. This position begins Sept. 1, 2017 or as soon as possible. Qualifications for the position include a minimum of least 3 years of age-group coaching experience. ASCA level 3 certification or equivalent is preferred. Bachelor’s degree is also preferred. Assistant Swimming Coach- Diving

The assistant coach for diving will assist the head coach in all aspects of the program that participates in NCAA Division I competition.   • Assist head coach with all aspects of coaching and instructing.
  • Conduct conditioning programs, encompassing recognized and approved methods of improving power, speed, strength and aerobic performance, consistent with industry safety and health standards.
  • As a position or event specialist, evaluate student-athletes to identify strengths and deficiencies, and design instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution based on sound motor learning and bio-mechanical principles.
  • Assist in conducting and supervising all practice and conditioning sessions, as is deemed appropriate.
  • Coordinate the strength and conditioning program with the department strength and conditioning coach.
  • Incorporate position specific learning opportunities into daily practice design as directed by head coach.

Recruiting

  • As an NCAA certified recruiter, successfully research, scout, evaluate and contact prospective student-athletes while operating within the scope of the department, Big East Conference and NCAA regulations at all times.
  • As an on-campus recruiter, collaborate with other department and university staff in designing official and unofficial visits in compliance with all university, Big East Conference and NCAA regulations.
  • Establish and develop relationships with appropriate high school and junior college officials, amateur club coaches, and coaches within the sport’s national governing body for public relations purposes, thus positioning the university nationally.

Administration

  • Assistant Coach is expected to conduct him/herself in a loyal, honest, responsible, ethical and professional manner at all times.
  • Conduct periodic review and evaluation of program goals, analyzing findings, identifying areas requiring improvement, and pursuing more efficient methods and processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and use master recruit databases to support decision-making, assessments, evaluations, and program review.
  • Extract, manipulate, and analyze complex data for recruiting purposes from databases such as the student data warehouse, National Student Clearinghouse, and other data sources.

  • Keep current in knowledge about issues affecting the athletic program, including internal and external events, discussions and concerns.
  • May be responsible for producing manuals or electronic publications for summer conditioning, technical play books, and team handbooks.
  • Assist with or manage awards (e.g. annual participation/letter awards, special achievement award and post-season or championship awards) per departmental policy and NCAA rules.
  • In coordination with the Equipment Manager, monitor the condition of equipment and request repairs or replacement as necessary.

Brief Description of Duties:

This position is an Assistant Coach for a Division I program in the sport of Women’s Swimming and Diving and will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a successful program. The primary focus of this position will be placed on the assistant’s use of independent judgment and discretion in the identification & recruitment of prospective student-athletes, their awarding of athletics scholarships, their teaching and skill development of those student-athletes during their athletic and educational tenure at Stony Brook University, and in the extensive daily administrative operations of their respective sport program. In addition, the Assistant Coach will be evaluated on the extent to which he/she provides each student-athlete a positive, meaningful, educational experience through athletics. The Assistant Coach is also expected to execute other program related duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach. A highly qualified candidate will have both excellent organization and communication skills.

Student-Athlete Teaching and Coaching

Team and Competition Preparation/Skill Instruction: The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with the instruction of the student-athletes on how best to perform in their sport. The incumbent will support the Head Coach in teaching all basic and advanced skills required in the sport of Women’s Swimming and Diving. The teaching of these skills and the development of those student-athletes occurs year round during individual skill sessions, team practices, and conditioning sessions (independent of the Head Coach). This includes the independent development and implementation of sound and safe practice plans that successfully prepare the student-athletes with the fundamentals of the specific sport. In addition, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating upcoming opponents by breaking down game tapes, preparing a scouting report for the student-athletes and advising the Head Coach on making adjustments to the game plan during contests.

Student-Athlete Development – Academic Success and Life Skills:

The Assistant Coach, working in conjunction with the office of Student-Athlete Development, will oversee the academic success of the student-athlete and assist with academic problems. This includes, providing guidance/counseling and support (as necessary) as well as supervising and monitoring study halls (as assigned), checking class attendance, and organizing weekly and monthly (one on one) academic meetings with each student-athlete to track their progress by semester, by major, and by degree requirements. This also includes support of Life Skill Education and the overall mental health and wellness of all student-athletes.

Recruiting

The Assistant Coach will use independent discretion and judgment in identifying student-athletes capable of competing both academically and athletically at Stony Brook University. He/She will play a decisive role in the subsequent active recruitment of those identified student-athletes and more importantly he/she will award athletics scholarships, either independently or in conjunction with the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing an assigned recruiting territory and identifying prospective student-athletes through thorough research, by independently evaluating talent at local & national events, and initiating correspondence and maintaining relationship with coaches and prospects. The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing a database of prospects and maintaining records of contacts, to remain in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University regulations. The Assistant Coach must propose, manage and adhere to a recruiting budget for each of the events attended.

Administrative Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach, which include, but not limited to, team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program. The Assistant Coach is required to work independently with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents (i.e. Financial Aid, Admissions, & Registrar) in carrying out these tasks.

NCAA Rules Compliance

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Women’s Swimming and Diving program. To be eligible to recruit off-campus, the Assistant Coach must pass the NCAA Recruiting Exam on an annual basis.

Other duties as assigned as appropriate based on rank and departmental mission

* Failure to comply with NCAA regulations can result in suspension without pay, termination, fines, institutional loss of scholarship and bans on post-season competition.

Special Notes:

This is a part time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Night and weekend work will be required.

Reports To:
