MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under supervision, conduct dynamic and innovative workshops, sports and specialized recreational programs for the Aquatics Division.
  • Provide swim instruction to tots, children, adults, seniors, and people with special needs. Aquatic Specialists may be asked to coach swim teams, supervise lap swim, teach water exercise classes and serve as Aquatics Directors at Summer Camps.
  • Develop and facilitate programming to engage New Yorkers in aquatic recreational activities.
  • Lead and coach youth Aquatics programming.
  • Instruct participants in basic fitness skills, including proper fitness equipment use, basic safety precautions and the health benefits of regular exercise.
  • Lead aquatics fitness classes for New Yorkers of all ages.
  • Maintain equipment and fitness areas on a daily basis, including keeping an inventory of necessary materials and supplies. Inspect public spaces and report evidence of unsafe or hazardous conditions.
  • Establish program objectives, evaluate recreational programs and design cutting-edge curricula.
  • Promote NYC Parks Recreation Center memberships and assist in events and special projects.
  • Collect and submit accurate data, forms, and reports to meet internal deadlines.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Three years of participation in an art, craft or other recreational pursuit as a teacher, performer, coach, official, contestant or demonstrator, including at least one year of experience in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job, as described below; or
  2. Major study in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job, as described below, acquired in a high school, college or other appropriate institution over at least a three year period; or
  3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience or education in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job as described below.

 

Job assignments are limited to the following recreational activities: woodworking, weightlifting, tennis, aquatics, soccer, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ham radio, horseback riding, hockey, figure skating, martial arts, music, nature study, art, photography, dramatics, dance-roller skating, small crafts, sewing, astronomy, auto mechanics, baton twirling, bridge, chess, modern dance, dog obedience, puppetry, boxing and storytelling.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Job Description: 

This position is designed to assist and support the Head Coach and Aquatics Director with the day to day operations of the Hillsborough Aquatic Club and Orange County Sportsplex Aquatic Center. Under the supervision of the Head coach, this individual will be an integral member of a coaching staff that works closely together to uphold our team’s mission and vision and to provide an environment where athletes can have fun and learn safety standards, while making an uncompromising commitment to the pursuit of excellence in swimming. Together with the coaching staff and the Board of Directors, the Head Age Coach will help foster a positive and supportive team culture that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current USA Swimming coach in good standing
  • Competitive swimming background required
  • Competitive swim coaching experience highly desired
  • Previous coaching experience desired
  • Strong understanding of age group swimming development, stroke mechanics, and training methodologies
  • Experience planning seasons and workouts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Flexible work hours including afternoons, evenings and weekends

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop season and implement practice plans and training programs for age group swimmers
  • Day-to-day coach for selected groups and assist/cover other groups as needed
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to athletes during drylands, competitions, and team events
  • Assess and monitor athlete progress, evaluate swimmer performance, and provide feedback for improvement
  • Help with new swimmer tryouts and evaluations
  • Attend and actively participate in swim meets, coaches’ meetings and team events as assigned
  • Assist in the guidance and programming for assistant coaches

About the Position

The Associate Head Coach will either lead the Senior program OR the Age Group program, with the existing Head Coach/CEO shifting to the other position.  The candidate will collaborate with the HC, but will have the latitude to put their own print on the program.

The Associate Head Coach will be responsible for writing engaging, challenging, age-appropriate workouts, helping to develop the coaching staff, and building positive relationships with swimmers, parents, coaches, high school coaches, and volunteers.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: assisting with social media, collaborating on facility reservations, and helping with the Masters team.
