The Manager of Aquatics within the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance is responsible for oversight of the operations of the Aquatics department, including all credit, adult non-credit, family and camp programming as well as the operation of the FitRec Aquatics Center, to include all facility maintenance and upkeep in coordination with Campus Planning & Operations. The Manager directs budget development, including stage planning, quarterly forecasting and maintaining the balance between entrepreneurial and service-based offerings. University of the Incarnate Word Athletics, a Division I and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) institution, is seeking an Assistant Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving program. The Assistant Coach is responsible to the Head Coach for assisting in all aspects of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming program. Responsibilities include:

Coaching, mentoring, recruiting, motivating, and evaluating academically and athletically qualified student athletes all in compliance with NCAA, MPSF, and University of the Incarnate Word policies and procedures.

Ensuring compliance with appropriate administrative processes pertaining to alumni relations, team travel, recruiting travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress.

Participating in fundraising and community service efforts, as appropriate and assigned.

Assisting in the coordination with appropriate Communications staff to provide pertinent information to media outlets and in preparing related web-based and written materials.

Commitment to the mission statement of the university and department, including University of the Incarnate Word core values of education, truth, faith, service, and innovation.

Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher. Recent Division 1 coaching and/or playing experience preferred.

This position requires a criminal background check, and that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.

Salary range for this position is $40,000 – $44,000 per year with benefits.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Duties:

  • Assist the head coach in managing and directing the swimming program, including 40+ student athletes.
  • Assist the head coach with all aspects of the swimming program, including training, competing, and scheduling.
  • Assist in managing the swimming program’s annual budget.
  • Organize and maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements.
  • Coordinate facility needs of visiting teams.
  • Organize and complete all required paperwork.
  • Assist the administration with alumni relations and scholarship fundraising.
  • Commit and adhere to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Assist with recruiting, including calling prospective student-athletes and evaluating high school and junior college players.
  • Work cooperatively with personnel in the Athletics Department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
