DUTIES

• Ensure that Head Coach duties are executed in accordance with COPS Bylaws

Reporting Relationship

Candidates will be on deck between 25 and 30 hours per week and will coach novice, intermediate and advanced training groups daily Monday-Saturday.

Coaching Responsibilities

• Primary coaching responsibility is for the program’s age group swim groups (PM practices), other coaching assignments will be taking an active role in assisting the head coach with all aspects of the senior team (some AM practices per week).

This position will assist the Head Coach in administering all aspects of an educationally sound and competitive Division I men’s and women’s swimming and diving program, within the rules and policies of the NCAA, Conference, and Oakland University. Assist the Head Coach in developing the program’s student-athletes academically and athletically, and in creating a positive, first-class experience for the student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Club or collegiate coaching experience required with knowledge and understanding of all aspects of collegiate swimming.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit elite student-athletes regionally, nationally and internationally.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to promote a positive and creative workplace and to work effectively to promote the program and Oakland University Athletics.
• Ability to perform all job duties in a manner consistent with NCAA, conference and University rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Proficiency in use of HY-TEK Meet Manager/Team Manager software and Colorado Timing Systems.
• First Aid, CPR, AED and Safety Training Certifications.
• A valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the University by the University’s insurance carrier

POSITION TITLE/DEPARTMENT NAME: Graduate Assistant Swim Coach

REPORTS TO: Head Coach – Swimming and Diving

SUMMARY: The Graduate Assistant Coach will perform the responsibilities directed by the head coach and assistant coaches as a swim coach and assistant for administrative tasks. The successful candidate will also be assigned administrative tasks as the lead. Technological proficiency would be an asset. The successful candidate will be a positive influence on the swimming and diving team and an effective leader. He or she will provide on-deck coaching daily and work in areas where he or she can provide the greatest benefit. Administrative duties will also be assigned in accordance with strengths.

The Head Coach of Friends’ Central Aquatics (FCA) is responsible for leading, coaching, and the overall competitive swimming program. They are responsible for creating and executing a strategy for the continued success of all swimmers and developing the skills and talent of the coaching staff. 

Responsibilities: 

1. Create, foster and maintain a positive culture and environment in which athletes across all levels can thrive.
2. Develop, design, and implement a coaching program that ensures consistent standards across levels of the entire program.
3. Ensure continued growth and excellence of FCA and FCS Swim Programs.
4. Plan a coordinated team training and competition schedule each season for both FCA and FCS Swim Programs.  
5. Assist the Aquatics Director with recruiting, hiring, and supervising diverse staff and volunteers, and further onboarding and developing them for success including professional development and evaluations.
6. Adhere to all USA Swimming and Middle Atlantic Swimming guidelines and policies.
7. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. 
8. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the FCA and FCS community, including current FCA and FCS swim families. 

Essential Job Tasks:   

1. Provide hands-on direction for the Age Group swim team program on a daily basis, including writing practices consistent with the program’s approach and focus, as well as conducting practices for several different levels within the Age Group Programs. 
2. Oversee assistant coaches working with the Age Group swimmers.
3. Develop effective communication (both written and verbal) with swimmers and families.
4. Coordinate meet entries with assistant coaches for Age Group swimmers.
5. Manage team enrollment and any on deck matters for Age Group swimmers at practices and meets.
6. Substitute for other coaches as needed.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Job Status: Exempt, full time, 12 months

Candidate Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Have at least 5+ years of competitive coaching experience at the high school, college or USA club level.
• Knowledge of designing and implementing seasonal training plans. 
• Hold a current Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR certification. 
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills and display excellent judgment. 
• Have knowledge of Hy-Tek’s Meet Manager and Team Manager software.
• Have strong computer skills and be familiar with basic web content management and social media management. 
• Have strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to multitask effectively.

Friends’ Central Aquatics is a dynamic club with a committed core of 150+ swimmers, a supportive family body, and an enthusiastic staff, looking to increase training and performance results. The club was founded in 2001 and has grown into one of the largest USA Club Swimming programs in  the region.. The club currently trains at Friends’ Central School. The facilities include a 6 lane, 25-yard competition pool, fitness room, athletic fields, outdoor track, and an Endless Elite Pool. FCA hosts seven short course meets each year. FCA also runs a very successful Saturday swim school that offers both private and group lessons. 

Friends’ Central School has a successful swim program that has earned a total of 33 Friends Schools League titles. FCS swimming has one at least one league title every year from 2006-2023. FCS has sent more than 40 swimmers to compete at the college level.
