Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and organized age group coach with the experience and expertise to direct and lead our highest level 13–14-year-olds and 11-12 year old swimmers at one of our sites.  We are looking for some who is dedicated to developing a quality Senior program through an established curriculum.  This coach will be working directly with our Head Coach and Site Head Age Group Coach to establish technically efficient swimmers who can compete at the state and national level.

Responsibilities:

  • Run and assist with 6-8 workouts per week for approximately 25 hours a week.
  • Attend 1-2 swim meets a month.
  • Oversee athlete progression and coach mentorship in all competitive groups at the site.
  • Assist coaching staff with administrative duties relating to the site or team as well as interactions with parents.
  • Assists in managing  the site in accordance with the standards and philosophy established by the Head Coach

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-10 years competitive coaching with a minimum of 3 years leading high level age group or senior level swimmers.
  • Must be able to manage, train and engage with 20-25 swimmers in a group.
  • Effectively communicate goals and swimmer progression from the age group program to the national level program to parents and swimmers.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and manage the district USA Swimming (USAS) club team as well as coach the top-level club swim groups.  In coordination with the FISD Swim/Dive Coordinator will oversee the hiring, supervising, and mentoring of all assistant USAS coaches.  Ensure that the USAS staff provides quality aquatics programs to meet the needs of all ages and abilities under the guidelines established by the national governing bodies of United States Aquatic Sports and the American Swimming Coaches Association.  Collaborate with the FISD Swim/Dive Coordinator for programming, scheduling, and facility needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Master’s Degree or Mid-Management Certification preferred
Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification (required)

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (required)

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification or willing to obtain within six months of employment.

Current USA Swimming Coach Certified

American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 3 or higher.

Ability to obtain a CDL with passenger, air brake, and safety endorsements (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills

Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Good knowledge of aquatic facility management, program supervision, and swim and diving meet operations including set up and functions

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Knowledge of district, state, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) governing athletics and organizations

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Management:

Coach all competitive age groups including, but not limited to, developing a swim program that is technically appropriate, age appropriate, and developmentally appropriate for both water and dryland training.

Determine age appropriate workout group for each athlete and update group requirements/progression as needed.

Collaborate with Swim/Dive Coordinator for hiring, supervising, and educating all assistant USAS coaches.

Recruit and retain productive coaching staff.

Direct staff meetings as needed.

Manage and mentor coaching staff.

Schedule workout times and qualifying requirements for each group in consultation with assistant coaches.

Manage, lead, and coordinate programming and scheduling at multiple sites.

Establish overall season goals and plans for USAS team.

Collaborate with high school coaches on development of shared athletes throughout high school and club seasons.

Motivate swimmers in attaining scholastic goals.

 

Organization: 

Work as AOD in rotation with natatorium administration for any hosted events.

Collaborate with natatorium administration to coordinate event coverage and scheduling workers.

Update district administration on development and progress of the team.

Communicate with staff, swimmers, and parents in a professional and courteous manner.

Establish annual meet schedule for staff and individual athletes and secure appropriate travel arrangements as needed.

Work with assistant coaches to ensure that the swimmers under their supervision develop appropriately.

Actively promote the swim club using marketing and recruiting tools.

 

Administration:

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.

Instruct parents in the rules and etiquette of competitive swimming and provide coaching and counseling of swimmers and parents as needed.

Provide LSC, Regional, and USS representation.

Submit a monthly report on the state of the swim club to the FISD Swim/Dive Coordinator and/or Athletic Department.

Other duties as assigned to aid in the efficient and safe operation of the FISD Aquatic Facilities.

Report to the FISD Swim/Dive Coordinator.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversee compliance with USAS, Local Swim Committee (LSC), UIL, and school district policies, regulations, and guidelines.

Ensure every USAS staff member is current on all required trainings, certifications, and professional memberships.

Evaluate job performance of USAS employees to ensure effectiveness.

Manage personnel by providing formative and summative evaluations of job performance.

Recruit, select, train, and supervise all USAS personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Establish job requirements for all USAS staff.

Maintain an accurate record of all staff members’ accreditation and certification.

Evaluate staff performance and maintain personnel and performance records.

Establish Code of Conduct for all swimmers

Complete other duties as required by the Natatorium Manager.

Essential Functions
Coaching Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program to raise funds necessary to offset expenses associated with non-budgeted expenses and training trips as appropriate.
  • Organize community service projects for the team members to complete per the mission of the NCAA, the Regis Athletic Department and Regis College.

  • Evidence a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations governing the specific sport competition at the collegiate level, and adhere to the rules and standards established by Regis College, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the ECAC and the NCAA (Division III).

Department of Athletics Responsibilities

The supervised field experience must be completed after the graduate intern role is complete.), and 33 credits of MS in Health Administration.
    • The following fully online programs quality for tuition remission on a space-available basis: 36 credits of MEd in Student Success, 39 credits of MS in Accountancy (3 credits are not covered by tuition remission.), 42 credits of Master of Public Health (6 credits are not covered by tuition remission.), and 30 credits of Master of Social Work.
    • Courses in the graduate Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, and Doctor of Education programs are not eligible for tuition remission.
