Day 6 Prelims Heat Sheet
The Day 6 Prelims Heat Sheet revealed that there were a couple of top-16-seeded scratches. In the 200 backstroke, Anna Peplowski (#15 – 2:09.82) opted to end her 2024 Trials early. Peplowski finished 6th in the finals of the 400 free (4:09.20) and 14th in the semifinals of the 100 free (54.60). In the 200 free, Peplowski finished 5th in a time of 1:57.04 and could be named to the roster, but must wait to see if there are enough doubles to allow for Priority 3 Athletes.
Bella Sims has also withdrawn from the 200 back. Sims has had a difficult meet, failing to earn second swims in the 400 free and 200 free. With her withdrawal today, Sims has the 800 free and 200 IM remaining.
In the Men’s 50 free, Drew Kibler and Justin Ress both pulled out of their top 16 seeds, as did Blake Pieroni, who was the 34th seed. Kibler was named to the team as a member of the 4×200 free relay. Pieroni finished 6th in that race and, like Peplowski, must wait until more roster spots are filled to see if we are on the plane to Paris.
The men’s 200 IM saw no scratches among the top 16, but Michael Andrew, the 25th seed, has officially withdrawn. SwimSwam reported this at the beginning of the meet, and Andrew, who missed the Paris roster in the 100 breast (8th – 1:00.11) has the 50 free and 100 fly remaining

The most competitive spot up for grabs now has to be the (likely) 2nd spot in women’s 200 back, right? There are like 4-5 swimmers in the mix, none of whom are on the team in anything else.
did anyone really think MA was going to swim the 200 IM?
Jack Schuster appears to still be in the 50 Free. Brett Pinfold scratched it though.
Thanks for the catch
The clock is running (out) for Michael Andrew.
Any predictions are whether he makes it — or not — to Paris 2024?
no
I mean, he’s T-1 right now after prelims in the 50 free…people writing him off like he has no chance…yes he does. He probably has a 21.5 in him, which is going to be darn close to being probably 2nd place in the 50.
I don’t know if he has enough in the 100 fly given there is so much depth there, but if Dressel is off a bit, and Rose is as well, that’s a possiblity as well.
Not sure why there is so much hate for the guy who’s just trying different strategy to reach the same result.
I’m betting he ends up 3rd or 4th in the 50fr, and in the 4th-6th range in 100fly (if he does both).
Oh well… I was hoping to see “00” Mandrew string together those 50s he’s so passionate about.
Darn, I wanted to see another 30.69
Thankfully Trenton Julian got me, courtesy of a split second decision to swim fly on the last 50 of the 2 IM
Not sure why Kibler & Pieroni don’t just give it a go in the 50. You’re in the shape of your life, your meet is done in terms of making the team. Why not just give it a whirl & go for a PB. You’ll never be in this perfect shape again in your lives, felllas, trust me. We men of a certain age are experts. This is it, so press play.
To be fair the mental toll of missing the team and having zero shot in the 50 is pretty brutal. They know how good they are and don’t have anything to prove to anyone.
Kibler is on the team – Pieroni has a big shot at missing
Neither one missed the team?
Why bother? It’s back to training
For what?
Didn’t kibler make it in 4•200 or are they replacing him with foster
Assuming the 26 roster is a non limit, he will be in Paris and swim in the Morning. Assuming Foster isn’t sick or injured, Foster 100% should be on the 4 x 200 Final relay.
