On the final night of competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Swedish world champion Sarah Sjostrom teamed up with Ida Lindborg, Jennie Johansson, and Michelle Coleman in the 4×100 medley relay. The Swedish women sat in 7th through the first half of the relay until Sjostrom took to the water for the butterfly leg.
Sjotrom tore through the water with a 25.41 split on the first 50. She closed in 29.62 on the way to a 55.03, marking the fastest 100 fly relay split in history. The former fastest split was a 55.28 done by Sjostrom at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. That split pulled Sweden into 5th as Coleman took over for the freestyle leg. Her 52.93 was enough to maintain their position, as they finished 5th in 3:55.28. They were just 4 hundredths shy of the Swedish Record, which stands as a 3:55.24 from 2015 Worlds.
