• Administration: Maintain team records, manage diving software, and send appropriate results to DAPER, NCAA and NEWMAC offices. Adhere to regulations associated with MIT, conference, and national governance regulations at the NCAA Division III membership level.

• Other: Perform other duties as assigned by head coach and/or department head/director of athletics.

Time Commitment:
The in-season period operates from September through end of March. During that time, the position requires approximately 15 hours per week of coaching (6 x 2-hour workouts with responsibilities on the weekend for meets), practice development, student-athlete mentoring, and other duties as assigned. Practices are mostly in the evenings, with competitions occurring mostly on the weekend. Outside of the competitive season, the diving coach has minimal responsibilities outside of assistance with recruiting and team events as necessary.

Waynesboro Area YMCA is looking to fill a leadership vacancy in our organization. This position will oversee all aquatic programs, staff, and daily operations of two indoor pools.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for scheduling and implementing both swim lessons and aquatic fitness classes as well as overall pool programming.  This is a supervisory role that oversees instructors, lifeguards, and one part-time direct report. The Aquatics Director will oversee the financial planning and budgeting for the department. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable of water safety and aquatic best practices. A friendly customer service attitude is imperative.

If your knowledge and experience include coaching Swim Teams, you may serve as Head Swim Team Coach. You may create season plans, daily training programs, hire and supervise assistant coaches, organize/attend swim meets, coordinate with local governing body, and work with the team parent association.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
  • One to two years of related professional experience preferred including supervisory leadership; ability to demonstrate Team Leader Competencies
  • Minimum age requirement of 21
  • Lifeguard certification required, YMCA or American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Instructor preferred.
  • Typical requirements within 30-90 days of hire include CPR; First Aid; AED; PA Pesticides License, USA/YMCA Coaching Certifications.
  • Ability to obtain Background/Child Abuse clearances and training immediately upon hire.

Essential Functions

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the members and the Y
  • Establishes new programs/activities and expands program offerings as needed
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed.

Review and evaluate staff performance.

Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.

  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
    • Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of pools.

    • Ensure first aid equipment and supplies are stocked and up to date.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information including updating operations software.

  • Liaise with the Board of Director Committee Chair and Swim Team Parents Association

Candidates must be able to teach proper technique and skill development in various aspects of swimming. Candidates should have a complete and thorough understanding of the sport and be able to instruct student-athletes in small group and one-on-one settings.

Applicants should be well versed and able to instruct student-athletes on physical health, team concepts and team building exercises, team development techniques and safety.

A thorough understanding of NCAA and GMAC rules and regulations is required. The head coach must adhere to these rules and ensure that the program is in compliance with all rules, regulations and guidelines. The ability to articulate these to student-athletes is also required.

An understanding of Ashland University’s mission and goals is required. Applicants must have the ability to explain these to student-athletes.

The head coach will supervise and direct the men’s and women’s teams. This will include supervision at multiple practices and events with two teams.

Candidates will be responsible for monitoring the swimming budget. All plans for travel and equipment purchase also fall under the responsibility of the head coach.

This position requires the ability to recruit potential student-athletes. The head coach is responsible for meeting all Ashland University roster requirements.

The head coach is responsible for monitoring academic progress of all student-athletes on the team and working with various constituencies across campus to ensure that student-athletes receive the proper academic counseling and assistance.

All practice and meet preparation falls under the direction of the head coach. The head coach is responsible for the setting up the game-day staff for meets and working with the sports marketing director to ensure that the game day environment adheres to GMAC and NCAA regulations.

The head coach will direct and finalize all scouting responsibilities.

The head coach will direct and evaluate all assistant coaches.

It is desirable if the head coach can direct and supervise summer camps and clinics.
The head coach will work with Ashland University’s Recreation Services staff in oversight of the pool area and with events that occur at that facility.

This position could require other assignments as assigned by the athletic director. These could include fundraising, game management and representing the athletic department at various functions.
