The Wilton YMCA Wahoos Age Group Coach works directly with the Director of Wahoos Swim Team and Wahoos coaching staff to lead the 11/12 Maroon and Gold practice squads. In addition, they will assist with the 8/under and 10/under squads to build connection with the entire 12/under program. The qualified coach leads with passion, patience, and enthusiasm to promote the learning of swimming skills, improvement of swimmer endurance and fitness, and instills a sense of confidence and team pride in all swimmers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coaching
Lead coach for Maroon and Gold Practice Groups, our intermediate and advanced 11/12 practice groups. Maroon goals include learning skills/endurance for a 100 of all four competitive strokes, 200 IM, and 500 Freestyle at the Regional championship level. Gold Squad goals include learning skills/endurance for a 200 of all four competitive strokes and explore distance events, at the Age Group Championship level.
Effectively prepares swimmers for a successful transition to the 13/14 Junior and Pre-Senior Squads with training, technical skill, and personal fulfillment in the sport of swimming.
Assists with 10/under and 8/under practices, as directed.
Develops meet schedule and coverage for Age Group program.
Prepares swimmer evaluations and recommendations on squad placement at the end of each season.
Attends required swim meets for Age Group program and all Wilton YMCA hosted meets.
Submits meet entries for Maroon and Gold swimmers.
Maintains accurate attendance records.
Maintains current USA Swimming, YMCA Swimming, Wilton YMCA, and HIPAA Compliance Trainings and certifications.
Assists with office work including scheduling, meet preparations, and social event preparations, and other team items as needed.
Assists with tryout evaluations.

Incorporate goal setting into practice sessions
Implement and assist in developing season plans and macro and micro plans
Perform seasonal and yearly evaluations of swimmers
Responds promptly to parent / guardian emails regarding their comments, concerns or observations about their swimmer
Inform and seek guidance from the Head Coach regarding any parent concerns that have the potential of escalation
Assist Head Coach and the entire PST coaching staff in planning the meet schedule
Attend all scheduled swim meets, meetings, and team functions as required
Participate in mandatory continuing education and in-service training as required
Cover practices for other PST coaches as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Head Age Group Coach, and Head Developmental Coach to aid in the efficient and safe operation of Piedmont Swim Team practices

Demonstrates exceptional skill in the application of positive, consistent, and effective motivational strategies when working with swimmers, parents, and other coaching staff in relation to all aspects of the program
Demonstrates strong organizational skills and experience in management and/or oversight of swim team and Swim School operations, including scheduling, billing, meet entries, registrations, on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of and ability to administer or use first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques
Ability to:
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, and successfully interact with athletes of all ages/abilities, families, staff, administrators and the PST Board
Demonstrate mature judgment, reliability, availability, and ethical behavior including punctuality, confidentiality, positive and constructive feedback, and ability to function in a multi-task environment

Maintain clear professional boundaries with swimmers and families and adhere to the American Swimming Coaches Association Code of Ethics, the USA Swimming Code of Conduct, and all SafeSport, USA Swimming, and team policies regarding athlete safety and protection
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: HS or GED degree, bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience: 4+ Years of experience coaching for a USA-Swimming team as a USA-Swimming certified coach, or coaching for a Collegiate Swim and Dive program or YMCA swim team
Certificates:
Coaching membership that is in good standing with USA Swimming
Has met all USA Swimming certification and coaching requirements (Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Athlete Protection, Concussion, Mandatory Reporting: Understanding Your Responsibility etc.)
Completed USA-Swimming’s ‘Welcome to USA Swimming’ course, completed or working towards completing USA-Swimming’s ADM Age Group Certification.
Must possess the following certifications from the Red Cross or other equivalent agency: lifeguard training, CPR, AED, and first aid
Must pass the following:
USA Swimming background check
LiveScan Fingerprinting check

State motor vehicle report

Must have legal rights to work in the United States.

Recruits prospective student-athletes, provides game-day coaching, and practice preparation, as well as operational duties within the Athletics department.
The head coach is charged with several major duties in connection with his/her program, including the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, game-day coaching, and practice preparation, the maintenance of the program’s budget and the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Athletics. The head coach must also monitor all facets, both athletically and academically related, that any participating student-athletes are involved in while also developing a working relationship with all facets of the Department of Athletics, including the training staff, compliance officer, media relations staff, home events coordinator and all other individuals responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department. The head coach is responsible for overseeing any assistant coaches working directly with the program and must strictly adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the College, the NCAA, and the Northeast Conference, an NCAA Division I Conference. The head coach may also be charged with other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Univ of Denver Hilltoppers Assistant Age Group Coach
Founded in 1955, the University of Denver Hilltoppers have been recognized as both Silver and Gold Medal club in recent years in the USA Swimming Club Excellence program. The program has approximately 275 athletes. The Hilltoppers primary facility is an indoor 50m x 25yd pool in the Ritchie Center on the University of Denver Campus, located in south central Denver metropolitan area. The team is committed to development of physical literacy through the GAIN dryland program.
POSITION SUMMARY:
University of Denver Hilltoppers are seeking an assistant coach for our age group program ages 8-12. We are hiring for multiple training groups. Opportunities may include overseeing one or two practice groups depending on applicant qualifications and availability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Coach Member in good standing with USA Swimming
Prior experience in competitive swimming.
Strong understanding of stroke mechanics and athlete development.
Interested in educational growth and professional development.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Value the importance of team culture and work within framework of team philosophy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create season plan ensuring continuity of group training philosophy within context of the long-term athlete team development plan
Work with other coaches above and below respective group to ensure athlete advancement is facilitated within the program.
Write daily workouts for both water and dryland.
Meet entries for respective training group(s)
Communication to parents and athletes within respective training group(s).
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Attend all competitions for respective training groups.
