Part-Time Coaching Opportunities | Newark, Delaware
Blue Hen Aquatics (BHA), a growing USA Swimming club based in Newark, Delaware, is looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable coaches to join our staff. We are currently hiring for two part-time coaching positions:
- Lead Senior Coach (Ages 13–18)
- 8 & Under Developmental Coach
These positions are ideal for coaches who are passionate about developing swimmers, building relationships, and creating a positive, athlete-centered culture. Whether you are an experienced coach looking for a leadership role or an up-and-coming coach eager to grow in the profession, we’d love to hear from you.
About Blue Hen Aquatics
Blue Hen Aquatics is a year-round USA Swimming club committed to developing swimmers from their first competitive strokes through high-level age group competition. Our philosophy is centered on technical excellence, long-term athlete development, accountability, and creating an environment where athletes enjoy the pursuit of improvement.
Practices are held at the University of Delaware’s premier aquatic facility, providing an outstanding environment for both athletes and coaches.
Senior Coach (Ages 13–18)
The Lead Senior Coach will oversee one of one of our senior training groups, working with committed athletes preparing for Age Group Championships, High School competition, Sectionals, Futures, and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily practices for swimmers ages 13–18
- Assist in developing season plans and weekly training objectives
- Design selected workouts while collaborating with the Head Coach
- Teach advanced stroke technique, race strategy, starts, turns, and training habits
- Mentor athletes in goal setting, accountability, and leadership
- Communicate effectively with athletes and parents
- Attend local and championship meets throughout the season
- Help cultivate a positive, competitive team culture
8 & Under Developmental Coach
This coach will help introduce young athletes to competitive swimming through engaging, organized, and technically focused practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead practices for swimmers ages 8 & under
- Teach proper fundamentals of all four strokes, starts, turns, and underwater skills
- Create an energetic and encouraging learning environment
- Foster confidence, sportsmanship, and a love for swimming
- Communicate swimmer progress with parents
- Attend swim meets and support athletes during competition
Preferred Qualifications
- Competitive swimming experience
- Previous coaching or swim lesson instruction
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Passion for teaching and athlete development
- Current USA Swimming certifications (or willingness to obtain before employment)
