Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be Instructor Ready: uniform, lesson plans, maintain records (attendance, track progress and complete end of session report).
  • Instruct participants according to YMCA Aquatics program standards: using lesson guides, guided discovery teaching, effective class organization and positive relationship with participants.
  • Ensure instructional equipment remains in good condition; have all equipment ready prior to classes and put away after
  • Report repair needs to supervisor whenever necessary.

Job Summary:
The role of the Head Coach is to develop a regionally strong competitive swim team with 120-160 swimmers while assuring growth of the team competitively and financially.   1. Set up squad guidelines. Plan and schedule all UVAC swim team programs

  3. Provide written evaluations of coaches and programs at the end of short and long course seasons

Under the direction of the Director of Competitive Swimming, and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg, the Head Senior Coach will be an integral leader as we seek to continue our growth and success in competitive swimming.  YSSC is a registered USA Swim and National YMCA Swim team that competes in local, state, and national level swim meets.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications –A 4-year college degree is required.  ASCA level 3 or higher preferred. 
Experience – Five or more years of competitive swimming coaching experience, YMCA experience a plus, with a background in supervising and developing swimmers, coaches, and volunteers.  Must be safe sport certified.Essential Functions

    • Assists in directing the operation of the YSSC program, including coaching and training of swimmers, supervision of coaches, coordination of volunteers, and management of all aspects of meets.
    • Supports the mission of the YMCA through program, staff, and volunteer development and leadership.
    • Ensures all certifications are up to date for staff.
    • Monitors program registrations and program retention to ensure quality programming is being implemented and promoted throughout the entire YSSC program.
    • Organizes the year-round meet calendar and ensures all details related to registration is properly coordinated for each meet.
    • Engages with other aquatics staff to ensure proper coordination is in place for connecting swimmers from YMCA swim lessons to placement on swim team with the appropriate timing.
    • Ensures a safe and supportive environment exists for all participants, coaches, and volunteers.
    • Assists in the financial development activities of the swim team program to meet or exceed the annual campaign goal.
    • Work directly with the Head Coach to plan the programming of the Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club.
    • Assist in planning for seasonal as well as long term goals for the swim team as well as their specific practice groups.
    • Lead Coach for at least 2 practice groups within the Senior and Junior programs
    • Manage all aspects of the YSSC Senior Program at the Middle Tyger YMCA: Including staffing, schedule, curriculum, and any meets offered to YSSC swimmers.
    • Provide parent/swimmer communication through phone, email, and website. Regular updates will be provided on a regular basis.
    • Assist in all aspects on meet management. Including entries, setup, and breakdown.
    • Assist with Social Media
    • Continue to make YSSC’s social media presence the benchmark for SC Swimming
    • Attend all swim team staff meetings and training opportunities as requested.
    • Document daily attendance and training plans.
    • Roster and retention planning for all Junior and Senior training groups.
    • Volunteer for appointments with SC Swimming, USA Swimming, YMCA Swimming, ASCA or other professional group

Position Summary:

The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Swim Coach with all facets of the NCAA Div. I women’s intercollegiate swimming program. The position reports directly to the Head Swim Coach. Duties include: poolside coaching during practices and meets; recruiting of top-quality student-athletes; team travel, conditioning, academics, promotional and public relations activities; summer camps; and other duties as assigned by the head coach. This position must be in compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations and must display professional integrity.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Collegiate swim coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree
• Intercollegiate competitive experience as a swimmer
• Successful swimming coaching experience with college women, preferably at NCAA Div. I level
• Ability to recruit top-quality student-athletes at the NCAA Div. I level
• Familiarity with Northwest recruiting areas
• Demonstrated public relations, organizational, and communication skills
• Solid computer skills relating to recruiting and camp administration
• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with NCAA and conference rules and regulations
• Coaching and administrative experience with summer camps
• Able to work full time and has good references
• Coaching philosophy consistent or complimentary to that of the existing head coach
