Head Senior Coach – Highland Park Aquatics Club (HPAC)

Highland Park Aquatics Club (HPAC) is seeking an experienced, high‑performance Head Senior Coach to lead our senior training group within our competitive USA Swimming program. This role focuses on advanced athlete development, championship preparation, and leadership in team operations, including home meet management.

Key Responsibilities

High‑Performance Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Lead senior group training with seasonal plans aligned to periodization and peak performance.
  • Provide advanced technical instruction in stroke mechanics, starts, turns, pacing, and race strategy.
  • Track athlete progress through data, goal setting, and evaluation.
  • Prepare swimmers for championship, sectional, national, and collegiate‑pathway competition.
  • Build a positive, disciplined, athlete‑centered culture.

Program & Staff Leadership

  • Lead all senior practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Support long‑term athlete development across training groups.
  • Mentor assistant coaches and reinforce consistent coaching philosophy.
  • Maintain training plans, attendance, and performance benchmarks.

Competition Planning & Meet Management

  • Plan seasonal meet schedules with club leadership.
  • Manage meet entries, relays, and race strategies.
  • Provide on‑deck coaching and post‑race feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with USA Swimming and Illinois Swimming regulations.

Home Meet Operations

  • Plan and execute sanctioned home meets.
  • Operate Hy‑Tek Meet Manager (entries, seeding, scoring, results).
  • Coordinate timing systems, touchpads, scoreboard integration, and other necessary equipment.
  • Oversee facility setup, hospitality, athlete areas, and volunteer staffing.
  • Manage timelines, warm‑ups, and session logistics; produce post‑meet reports.

Communication & Administration

  • Communicate expectations, goals, and progress with athletes and families.
  • Collaborate with coaches and club leadership on planning and operations.
  • Maintain required certifications and safety credentials.
  • Support scheduling, policy implementation, and program administration.

Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years coaching competitive swimmers, preferably senior or high‑performance level.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced training methodology and athlete development.
  • Proven experience running sanctioned home meets.
  • Proficiency with Hy‑Tek Meet Manager and electronic timing systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Current coaching and safety certifications (CPR/AED, First Aid, APT, background check).

Preferred:

  • Experience coaching sectional, national, or collegiate‑level athletes.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Background in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field.
  • Experience managing multi‑session championship meets.
