Flickinger Scratches 200 Back, Berkoff Bumped Into Final

2021 U.S. OLYMPIC SWIMMING TRIALS

There was only one event scatch for Saturday’s finals session and it came from #8 seed Hali Flickinger in the women’s 200 back final. This bumped Katharine Berkoff, who got 4th in the 100 back final Tuesday, into the final.

Flickinger is already qualified in the 400 IM and 200 fly.

Going into the meet, Berkoff was ranked 11th in this event with a time of 2:10.12, but her lifetime best time is 2:09.76 from the semifinals. Going into this meet, Berkoff’s best time was 2:09.84 from 2018 Summer Nationals.

Notably, Linnea Mack was DQ’d in the 50 free during prelims, reportedly for a false start. She finished in 9th place this morning with a time of 25.09.

MAck’s DQ bumped 17th place finisher Grace Countie into the semifinal, but the DQ was overturned. Similar to the women’s 100 breast final where Molly Hannis DQ was overturned, there will be nine women in heat two of the 50 free semifinal tonight.
