Alex Walsh on Paris: “This is great practice for next year”

2023 U.S. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

After competing at her first Olympics in Tokyo with no crowd at all, world champ Alex Walsh appreciated getting to swim in Indianapolis where there were lights, cameras, and a full crowd. Walsh noted this would be good practice heading into next year when the 2024 Olympic Trials will be in Lucas Oil football stadium and, pending qualification, the Paris Olympics will be at full capacity.

Sincerely hope this will not turn out to be a “counting of the chickens prior to hatching”.

I think Douglass and the Walsh sister look pretty relaxed before they swim. Kate looks like she’s about to warm up for an easy practice before she races. Then, when she breaks an American Record, she gives a half smile.

To be blessed with the WALSH sisters is truly fantastic! Not sure how long it will be when we see this sibling success of ladies on a national and international level again! They are 2 beautiful, humble and ridiculously talented young ladies! USA SWIMMING is lucky to have them! WE as swimming fans are LUCKY to have the WALSH SISTERS!!!! Look SO FOWARD to watching both of them go lower in their times!!!

I remember following them when they were in high school! I continue to follow our sport since my career came to an end in 1989 for U of Iowa because of shoulder injury! I could bore you with all the swimming I have followed, men and women over those 35 years! These sisters are just remarkable! The closest thing in my home state of Ohio we have is the FOSTERS! Hannah, Jake and Carson! Nothing as a former swimmer is more gratifying than seeing siblings succeed in our sport!

Yeah, the Fosters dad has posted videos for years on YouTube.

Carson always had such good strokes. The coaches at Mason Manta Rays must be so proud of him.

Mason Manta Rays’ program is the best in our state! Not only the FOSTERS! Adam Chaney, and so many others! I subscribed to James Foster’s YouTube Channel the year he started it!

Swim fans, do yourself a favor! Subscribe to this channel! James Foster has spent a RIDICULOUS AMOUNT of money for his 3 children’s swimming careers! Show him you support his family!

Yes, I agree! Phenominal siblings! BUT, I am only referring to the U.S.A. If you want to look at history of international sibling swimmers, look at the Manaudou brother and sister! Their success is unprecedented!!!

Campbell sisters have been Olympics and World champions.

Walsh sisters still have ways to go to match that.

Erik

Yes! You are absolutely correct! Cate and Bronte are probably the most successful sister swimmimg siblings in current history! I do; however, have a bit of optimisim that Alex and Gretchen may go beyond in the future! Their talent is the best the US has seen maybe EVER as siblings!

With the crowd and the lights, it must feel like walking out on a stage.

She seems poised before her events. Some swimmers are twitching like mad, tugging on their goggles, their suit straps, their swim caps.

After qualifying for two individual events (200 IM, 400 IM), Alex Walsh should have been given the option to swim the heats of the W 4 x 200 FR-R. In addition, the W 4 x 200 FR-R does not conflict with Alex’s event schedule (Days 1, 2, 8) at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. Furthermore, Alex Walsh swam the heats of the W 4 x 200 FR-R at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships.

Jobbed!

Doubt Walsh will be used. That would mean they would do a full switch for the final – very unlikely.
Prelim: Peplowski – A. Walsh – Shackell – L. Smith
Final: Weinstein – Gemmell – Ledecky – Sims

Anna Peplowski should have never been selected to the USA Swimming National Team for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. If Erin Gemmell was not selected last year under identical circumstances neither should have Anna Peplowski.

Prelims gonna be shackell-peplowski-smih- gemmell

(shackell was out as fast with sims at the 50 she was slower on the last 50 but still went 1:56.71, she has a lot more drop In her I wouldn’t be surprised if she went 1:55 mid on lead off, her and gemmell will be given the nod to swim the final)

Depending how Weinstein and sims do in the individual and how ledecky did in 400, the finals should go

  1. lead off Weinstein
  2. 2nd leg gemmell/shackell which on has the best performance in prelims
  3. 3rd leg ledecky
  4. anchor sims

some combination of Weinstein, shackell, gemmell, ledecky, and sims just depending on how everyone swam on their… Read more »
