For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Charlotte, North Carolina’s Emme Nelson has announced her intention to swim for Texas A&M University beginning in the fall of 2020. She will suit up with fellow Texas A&M class of 2024 commits Abigail Ahrens, Alaya Smith, Bobbi Kennett, Chalotte Longbottom, Chloe Stepanek, Desirae Mangaoang, Evelyn Bruner, Jade Hallum, JoJo Daspit, and Olivia Theall.

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Texas A&M University! I would like to thank my family and my coaches for supporting me and helping me through this process. I can’t wait to be an Aggie!!! #gig’em”

Nelson is a senior at Community School of Davidson which competes in the North Carolina 1A/2A Division for small schools. In three years of high school swimming she has never lost an individual event at the state meet. In 2019 she won her 3rd 200 IM with 2:00.70, taking 1.3 seconds off her 2018 1A/2A state record. She then won the 100 breast for the 3rd time with 1:02.58, just off her 2018 record of 1:02.28. Nelson also contributed a 28.49 breast to the 200 medley relay and a 23.53 anchor to the 200 free relay.

This summer, Nelson competed at Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100/200 breast and 200/400 IM. She placed 16th in the 200 breast and took home a new PB in the 400 IM (5:03.53). She had gone best times in the 200 breast (2:33.88), 100 fly (1:04.38), and 200 IM (2:21.24) earlier in the summer.

Nelson’s best 100 breast time would have scored in the B final of the 100 breast at 2019 SEC Championships. It took 2:13.24 to get a second swim in the 200 breast and 1:58.76 to final in the 200 IM. The Aggies will have graduated their top 2019 breaststrokers, Anna Belousova and Sydney Pickrem by the time Nelson begins.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 breast – 2:14.55
  • 100 breast – 1:01.76
  • 200 IM – 2:00.70
  • 400 IM – 4:20.57
  • 100 back – 56.53
  • 100 fly – 56.09

Agreed. She will get a great deal faster in those 2 disciplines with the tutelage of Steve Bultman, Tanica Jamison, & company. Can hardly wait to see her don a Texas A&M swim cap & compete in the SEC. We will gig them forever👍👍.
