Utah Scores Verbal Commitment from 2x Minnesota HS Champion Jackson Kehler

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jackson Kehler, a junior at Eagan High School in Eagan, Minnesota, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Utah for 2022-23.

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Utah. I would like to thank my parents, friends and coaches for helping me to this next step in my journey. I’m so stoked to be a Ute!! #goutes”

Kehler swims year-round with Riptide. He specializes in free and fly. As a sophomore at the 2020 Minnesota High School Boys Class AA State Championships, he won the 200 free (1:38.89) and 500 free (4:33.49) and anchored the 200 free (21.97) and 400 free (47.31) relays, the latter of which was DQd in finals.

A Winter-Juniors-or-better qualifier in the 100/200/500 free and 100/200 fly, Kehler has improved his lifetime bests in the SCY 100/200/500/1000 free, 50 back, 100 breast, and 200/400 IM and the LCM 50/100/200/400 free and 100/200 fly since the beginning of his junior year of high school. He competed at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Des Moines earlier this month, finaling in the 100 free (12th), 200 free (19th), 400 free (10th), and 200 fly (18th) and scoring a PB in the 100m free (52.68). At Indy Sectionals at the end of March, he notched PBs in the LCM 50 free (24.45), 200 free (1:54.53), 400 free (4:06.23), 100 fly (58.34), and 200 fly (2:10.10). He had a particularly strong showing last spring at the 2020 Minnesota Short Course Senior Championships, finaling in the 50 free (8th), 100 free (3rd), 1650 free (4th), 100 fly (3rd), and 200 fly (2nd). He swam then-lifetime bests in all his events and has since updated everything but the 100/200 fly and 50/1650 free.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 fly – 1:50.47
  • 100 fly – 49.55
  • 500 free – 4:28.69
  • 200 free – 1:38.63
  • 100 free – 44.95
  • 50 free – 21.10

Kehler will join the Utes’ class of 2026 with fellow verbal commits Brandon Miller, Ike Harms, and Owen Watkins. He will overlap with Utah freestylers Noah Carlson (44.63/1:36.54), Finn O’Haimhirgin (43.34/1:38.12), Jaek Horner (43.88), Dylan Becker (4:26.18), Marko Kovacic (1:38.32), Nick Becker (4:26.79), and Nathan Ramey (4:26.92). He will also find ready training partners in butterflyers Carlson (1:47.25), Tony Puertas (50.32/1:50.54), and Max Hernandez-Nietling (48.98).
