Trials Qualifier Jake Narvid Announces Commitment to Swim at Tennessee

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jake Narvid from Gibbstown, New Jersey has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee for 2020-21. He will join Alexander Milanovich, Harrison Lierz, Jack Gillespie, Jacob McDonald, Jordan Tiffany, Joseph Jordan, Rafael Ponce de León, Thomas Horne, and Will Jackson in the class of 2024. Narvid swims for Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club.

“I’m happy to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee. I’d like to thank my coaches and family for helping me with this decision. The coaches and team atmosphere were the most influential part in my decision. Roll Vols.”

Narvid is a senior at Gloucester Catholic High School who specializes mainly in distance freestyle. He placed 6th in the 500 free (4:35.76) and 11th in the 200 free (1:43.33) at the 2019 New Jersey High School Meet of Champions. He then swam at NCSA Spring Championship in the 200/500/1000/1650 free and 100/200 fly. He came in 6th in the 500, 9th in the 1000, and 20th in the mile and notched PBs in the 500/1000 free and 100 fly. The following weekend, Narvid competed at Middle Atlantic LSC Short Course Championships where he won the 500 free and earned PBs in the 200 free, 100 back, 200 fly, and 400 IM.

This summer, Narvid had a big showing at the Middle Atlantic Senior Long Course Championships. He won the 1500 free with a 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials cut of 15:42.58, was runner-up in the 200 free (1:55.07) and 800 free (8:14.04) and placed 3rd in the 400 free (4:02.56). He was also an A-finalist in the 200 back and 200 fly. He left the meet with new times in the 200/400/800 free, 200 back, and 100/200 fly.

Narvid will arrive in Knoxville at a time when the Vols will be rotating their distance crew. With Sam Rice and David Heron finishing their eligibility last year and Taylor Abbott wrapping up at the end of this season, only Ethan Sanders and freshman Spencer Tussing will still be there. Narvid is almost fast enough to score at SECs; it took 15:32.34 in the 1650 and 4:21.37 in the 500 in 2019.

Top SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 15:39.59
  • 1000 free – 9:14.73
  • 500 free – 4:27.77
  • 200 free – 1:41.01
