Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Desirae Mangaoang, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina, has announced her intention to swim at Texas A&M University beginning in the fall of 2020. She wrote on social media:
“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Texas A&M! I appreciate everyone that has supported me along the way. Thanks and gig ‘em! #goaggies”
Mangaoang is a breaststroke/IM specialist. She swims year-round for SwimMAC Carolina and represents Philippines in international competition. She is the Philippines national record-holder in the LCM 50-100-200 breaststrokes. She set the 50 breast record of 33.20 with her gold-medal performance at the 43rd SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Cambodia in June. The other two came from Indy Sectionals where she finished second in the 200 (2:32.04) and third in the 100 (1:11.05). Mangaoang competed under the Philippine flag at World Juniors in August, too. She swam the 50/100/200 breast events but did not advance out of heats. She was a C-finalist in the 100m breast at 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals and also competed in the 200 breast.
In high school swimming, Mangaoang notched PBs in the 100 breast and 200 IM at 2019 North Carolina High School 4A Championships with 4th- and 5th-place finishes, respectively. She split a 26.54 50 breast on the medley relay and went 24.15 anchoring the 200 free relay.
The Aggies had a strong presence in breaststroke at 2019 SEC Championships, where then-junior Anna Belousova won the 100 (57.99) and 200 (2:04.80), the latter with a pool record. She will have graduated by the time Mangaoang heads to College Station. She will suit up with fellow class of 2024 verbal commits Alaya Smith, Bobbi Kennett, Chalotte Longbottom, Chloe Stepanek, Evelyn Bruner, Jade Hallum, JoJo Daspit, and Olivia Theall in the fall of 2020.

Congratulations Desirae! Great choice!
I think Desirae used to swim for AAAA (Alamo Area Aquatics Assn.) out of San Antonio before moving to SwimMAC. Regardless, excited to welcome Desirae back home to Texas. Congratulations on the commitment and Gig’Em!
Some schools do a great job recruiting great swimmers. A&M does a fantastic job recruiting really good swimmers and developing them into even better swimmers. Hats off to coaches there.
^^^^THIS^^^^^ Not sure why more top recruits don’t seem to care
Congratulations and welcome to the SEC – but the SEC Championship trophy will be coming to Knoxville Tennessee in 2020 as the girls who wear the coonhats will be diving and swimming out of their minds!
HAHA
Wishful thinking! Y’all were the favorites last season but didn’t happen for y’all😥. That championship still “runs through College Station” until someone “dethrones “ is!
You just made a terrific choice in where you want to go to school & who you want to swim for Desirae! Welcome to the defending SEC champions & to the Aggie Family! You’ll never regret your choice & as you are aware of: “The SEC Women’s Swimming Championship “still” runs through College Station, Texas”!! Wishing you the best in the classroom & in the pool. Gig em forever👍.
