Saloni Dalal has announced her decision to swim for Rice University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. She is a senior at Inventure Academy in Bangalore, India.
I’m super thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Rice University! Rice’s academic rigor and excellent swimming program led by coach Seth make it the perfect fit for me! Thank you to my parents, coaches, teachers, and friends who have always supported me! Also, I want to thank Rick Paine from ACC for guiding me throughout the process! I can’t wait to be an owl!!
In 2018, Dalal competed at the Indian Summer National Championships. She won gold medals in the the 50, 100, and 200 meter breast, recording best times in each event. Her performaces earned her the Best Swimmer Award at the end of the meet.
In 2015, Dalal became the youngest athlete across all sports at the Indian National Games to win a medal. She went a 2:47.49 in the 200 meter breast, taking home the bronze medal.
Dalal’s 200 long course meter breaststroke time of 2:41.88 is an Indian national record. She previously held the 100 meter breast record, until Kareena Shankta broke it in January of 2020.
Additionally, she is the Karnataka state record-holder in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke.

- 50 breast – 34.56 (30.32)
- 100 breast – 1:14.87 (1:05.64)
- 200 breast – 2:41.88 (2:22.23)
Dalal will be joining the 2020 Conference USA Championships runners-up in the fall of 2021. The breaststroke specialist will likely add to the team’s conference points next season. Her best 200 breast time would have placed her in the B-final at the conference meet, while her 100 breast time would have made her the top seed going into the C-final, only 0.06 seconds away from a spot in the B-final.
When she arrives in the fall of 2021, Dalal will train alongside some of Rice’s top breaststrokers Phillis Range, Sini Koivu, Virgie Qian, and Erin Vance.
Rice University has already received verbals from Sydney Morgan, Morgan Bartley, Megan Schultze, and Lauren McDougall for their class of 2025.
