Fiona Schere from Severn, Maryland has made a verbal commitment to the University of California, Los Angeles for the 2022-23 school year and beyond.

Schere swims for The Key School, where she is a sophomore, and North Baltimore Aquatic Club. She is a Maryland state record-holder and was named the 2020 Capital Gazette girls Swimmer of the Year. That followed her performances at the the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A and B Conference Swim Championships when she broke the league record in the 50 free with 23.18 and clocked a 50.37 in the 100 free.
Two months earlier she had racked up PBs in the 50 free, 100/200 back, 100 breast, and 100 fly at the 2019 NBAC 46th Annual Christmas Invitational. Her 50 free time was a Winter Juniors standard while both backstrokes qualified for Futures. A couple months later she added PBs in the 100 free (Winter Juniors cut) and 200 free at 2020 Maryland LSC Short Course Championships. At that meet, she won the 100 free, placed 3rd in the 50 free and 100 breast, and was 12th in the 100 fly and 14th in the 100 back.
Between the December and February championships a winter ago, she threw down LCM bests in all her top events at the Jim Wood Memorial Invitational in January 2020. Those included a Summer Juniors cut in the 50 free (26.45), Winter Juniors in the 100 free (57.92), and PBs in the 100 fly (1:04.83), 100 back (1:07.27), and 200 back (2:24.75).

Schere is the ninth public commitment to UCLA’s class of 2026. She will join Ashley Kolessar, Ava Lachey, Beril Böcekler, Courtney Seljeseth, Fay Lustria, Katrina Bellio, Morganne Malloy, and Rosie Murphy in Westwood in the fall of 2022.
