Job description:

The tasks of the coach, under the supervision of the headcoach, are:

  • to conduct the daily training sessions in the swimming pool;
    • the training sessions are organized on Monday and Friday from 06.00-08.15 and 16.30-19.00 and on Saturday morning from 7.30-10.00;
    • the strenght and conditioning are on Monday ( to be agreed upon) and Wednesday and Saturday afternoon (between 15.00-18.00);
  • the make-up of training schemes (depending upon the profile and experience of the candidate);
  • conducting the training sessions at periods of training abroad;
  • the preparation and conducting of swimmers at important competitions.

Furthermore, coaches are expected to:

  • work instructed by the headcoach;
  • co operate with all specialists supporting the team;
  • stay in touch with all essential and necessary training tools;
  • assist to minimum one clinic per season, organized by the Flemish Swimming Federation;
  • adopt a loyal, positive and constructive behaviour towards the high performance policy.

Profile of the requested candidates:

  • minimum 2 years experience as a swimming coach, in which International experience is a bonus;
  • minimum possession of a degree/ diploma of trainer B issued by VTS or therewith assimilated;
  • work according to plan, purposeful, both instructed and independent;
  • able to co operate in team;

Women’s Swim Head Coach/Aquatics Director

Pfeiffer University is seeking qualified candidate to fill the position of Women’s Swim Head Coach/Aquatics Director. The selected candidate is responsible for all aspects of planning, developing and coaching the women’s swim team within the guidelines of the NCAA DIII rules and regulations. Provide leadership and instruction in personal and athletic development of student athletes at Pfeiffer University. This is a full-time, 12 month position who reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program; to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Conference and the NCAA;
  • Plan, organize, direct, and lead operations for the swimming program including budgeting, traveling, purchasing and facility usage;
  • Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds; Stay within the provided program budget.
  • Plan, organize, and schedule season competition to be approved by the Sports Administrator assigned to that team;
  • Oversee preparation for team travel and competition;
  • Implementation of a recruiting program that is consistent with University, Conference and NCAA rules while maintaining a roster of no less than 20 female swimmers;
  • Screen and evaluate athletic qualifications of prospective student-athletes; coordinate with University Admissions Office;
  • Oversee daily practice of players to instruct them in areas of deficiency;
  • Attend all swim practice sessions and schedule all competitions.
  • Fundraise each year for the Swim program and Falcon Club. Meet fundraising goals set by the Athletics Director. Work in coordination with the Advancement office.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Alumni.
  • Oversee and supervise pool facilities and work with Asst. AD for Event Management when high school, club, and community members use the facility.
  • Analyze meet and individual statistics for team performance;
  • Develop appropriate tracking of and maintain information regarding the scholastic performance of student-athletes;
  • Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, consult with Sport Administrator for resolution of problems as required;
  • Staff member is responsible for the monitoring an institutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coaches supervision is to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
  • Oversee the effective maintenance of pool;
  • Train and supervise lifeguards;
  • Act as liaison with outside events and high school swim programs that use University pool facilities;
  • Ability to promote and maintain strong community involvement;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise student-athletes participating in the swimming program; direct supervision of assistant coaching staff. Works independently. Sports budget oversight. Determine appropriate disciplinary actions with a code of conduct for student-athletes. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department, University, NCAA and Conference Rules and regulations. Accountable for budgetary matters; i.e., expense accounts, recruiting, travel.

Work Environment/Dynamics:

The employee should be physically fit for the full range of physical activities. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. The scope of the position frequently requires working weekends, as well as overnight, out-of-town travel, particularly during the swim season.

Bachelor’s degree required and minimum of three years experience in coaching intercollegiate athletics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Lifeguard, First-Aid, CPR Certified.

All coaches must be certified in CPR during employment. Must maintain valid USA Swimming Coaches certification. All coaches must pass a background check and water safety for coaches.

Three years competitive swim coaching experience; ASCA level 3-4 or equivalent; current USA Swim and YMCA Coaching certifications or ability to obtain within 60 days; ability to meet YMCA transportation guidelines; ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including regular overnight travel; ability to effectively communicate with participants and volunteers. Excellent human relation skills and an ability to maintain positive communication with staff and members; ability to address and make solid decisions in emergency situations; excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use; prior experience of successful supervision of staff and volunteers preferred.

Must be able to stand and walk while maintaining alertness; must be able to hear and recognize noises and distress signals; must be able to frequently bend, lean, and kneel; must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; must be able to work in loud, humid environments.

  4. Serve as the primary deck coach for the Senior level swimmers.

  • Demonstrated proficiency to use athlete performance data to develop, plan and implement programming and services to achieve MN Swimming performance objectives.
  • Ability to travel within the LSC territory, as well as regionally and nationally, as necessary. Availability to attend MN Swimming Board of Directors meetings, committee meetings (as assigned), and House of Delegates, as well as USA Swimming Convention, national and zone workshops, and meetings as applicable to this position.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends when needs dictate the Sport Development Director’s presence.
  • A USA Swimming Non-Athlete Member in good standing or successful registration with USA Swimming prior to employment, including applicable background check approval and completing Athlete Protection training, is required. MN Swimming will also comply with all current requirements and recommendations of the USA Swimming Pre-Employment Screening Program for New Employees.

    3. Work in collaborative manner with complementary coach organizations (high school, college, ASCA, etc.)
  4. LSC Communications and Effectiveness
    1. Lead the rules & regulations for swim meets process

Position Summary

The Head Swim Coach (Age Group) will lead, design and foster systematic growth from the youngest novices to the Advanced Age Group level programs while working within the Team Mission, Vision, and Values of the National Training Center Aquatics swim team.

Essential Functions

  • Coaches swim team members in competitive swimming and strength development techniques.
  • Focuses on developing swimmers of all ages.
  • Assists with other swim team member duties as necessary.
  • Abides by the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and Florida Swimming policies and procedures throughout all instruction.
  • Plan, prepare and conduct team practices in accordance with the Head Coach.
  • Assist Head Coach with planning seasonal practice and meet schedules.
  • Exemplify the structure, philosophy and direction of the NTCA Swim Team program.
  • Supports collaborative relationships with community organizations. Establish a local presence and reputation within Florida Swimming LSC, Central Florida via clinics and volunteering.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and motivation skills with children, taking into consideration varied social, emotional and physical attributes, possess an attitude of inclusion and team building.
  • Responds to swimmer, parents and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner and demonstrates strong administrative, communication and organizational skills.
  • Coordinate and develop group goals and curriculum.
  • Evaluate individual swimmers performance in meets and re-evaluate training/goals for group/individuals accordingly and maintain up-to-date performance reports on age group athletes.
  • Assist with team tryouts and swimmer assessments for group placement.
  • Attend all scheduled swim meets, meetings, and team functions as required.
  • Plans, writes and conducts three to four hours per day of on-deck coaching, to include early morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • Coordinate online meet entries (Team Unify) for all age group meets.
  • Coordinate with other coaches to ensure a seamless transition when swimmers advance to the next group.
  • Understanding of various social media platforms for promoting team communication.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, including: creation and production of materials
  • Establish and maintain social media platforms, team website, meet management and team management software programs.
  • Writes newspaper articles for website, social media, and print as a subject matter expert to help promote team.
  • Promotes fundraising and membership, in accordance with team’s strategic plan and hospital policy.
  • Maintains records, rosters, spreadsheets, coach’s certifications, and record board and meet participation
  • Work with dryland coach to design and implement seasonal strength plans for all NTCA age group athletes.
  • Responsible for effectively assessing swimmers and communicating group movement throughout the season.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Respects the rights and privacy of others and holds staff member information in strict confidence.
  • Maintains regular attendance and complies with time and attendance policy and procedure.
  • Adheres to South Lake Hospital’s policies and procedures; Mission, Vision and Values statements; Code of Conduct.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards including Federal, State, local and Joint Commission.
  • Prioritizes workload to manage multiple priorities.

  • Secondary areas of responsibility are teaching private competitive swim lessons.
  • Assist in locker room management during peak pool usage times.

  • Contribute to content of NTCA team newsletter
  • Collaborate with NTC Marketing Specialist to design all printed materials (i.e. brochures, flyers, Pulse newsletter, posters) related to department promotion; update supply of promotional materials throughout the club.
  • Submit website updates to Head Coach for approval.
  • Implement annual action plan for swim team program; set goals with Head Coach.
  • Meet with Head Coach / Assistant Coaches weekly.
  • Carry out facility operations, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education/Training Bachelors’ degree required.
  • Licensure/Certification Must have current CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Must pass a background check to work with children.
  • Must possess a minimum of a current ASCA Level 2 certification and US Swim Certified Level 2 or higher.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification from American Red Cross, Lifeguard Pro, YMCA or BSA preferred.

Desired Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years’ coaching experience.
  • Working knowledge of Data Trak, Hy-Tek, Team Unify and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) preferred.
