• Creates and schedules swim classes, rentals, water exercise, and family events in the pool.
• Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
• Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the program and participation 

• Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and supervises all aquatic personnel and volunteers.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
• Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, oxygen administration, swim instructor First Aid and CPR training.
• Assists with Program Committee and Cabinet meetings as necessary. 
• Ensures all aquatics staff is trained in emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.  Follows expectations of regular in-service training for staff and completes all related reports for record keeping.

Assistant Swimming Coach

Lead-Assistant Swim Coach/Aquatics Coordinator

4. Keeps record of aquatics staff certifications and ensures all staff maintain current certifications.
5. Maintains records of attendance and monitors payments for each program participant.
6. Maintains pool, equipment, and grounds to meet all necessary program and regulatory standards.
7. Maintains relationships with vendors and member service with parents and program participants.
8. Responsible for filling gaps in the lifeguard and swim instructor schedule.  Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff, and follow accident report procedures and policies.
9. Completes payroll for all aquatics staff.
10. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• One (1) year of experience in coaching college sports or in a related role.

• Strong knowledge of effective coaching practices, including the integration of technology into instructional methods.

Together with the Technical Director and Head Coach, the National Assistant Coach will be
tasked with supporting the national-level swimmers for both domestic and international competitions

ABOUT US
The Malaysia Aquatics Federation (MAS) is the national governing body for aquatic disciplines
(swimming, diving, artistic swimming, waterpolo, open water swimming, and masters swimming) in
Malaysia, and is affiliated to World Aquatics, the international governing body.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership and Vision
Collaborate with the Head Coach to lead coaching activities of Malaysia Swimming, aligning
efforts with the mission, objectives, and policies set forth by the Association and/or the National
Sports Council of Malaysia;
Assist the Head Coach in driving the vision and direction for the national team’s progression,
focusing on the transition from development phase to elite high performance, while contributing
insights and feedback;

2. Technical Expertise
Work alongside the Head Coach to implement cutting-edge coaching techniques and

Collaborate with the Head Coach to design, oversee and adjust comprehensive training and
competition programmes tailored for elite high performance swimmers;

4. Stakeholder Engagement
Contribute to stakeholder engagement efforts, collaborating with coaching staff and participating

science professionals, physiotherapists, nutritionists and other relevant experts to deliver a
holistic athlete development programme;
Collaborate with the coaching staff, engaging with national and international swimming bodies to
stay updated on rules, regulations and trends in high performance;
5. Team Management
Mentor and guide assistant coaches, to foster professional growth and ensure alignment with the
national team’s objectives, while promoting a cohesive coaching team;
Manage interpersonal dynamics within the team, ensuring a collaborative environment primed for
high performance;
6. Performance Evaluation
Regularly review team and individual performance, implementing changes based on outcomes,
gaps and feedback in collaboration with the coaching staff;
Collaborate with sport analytic professionals to derive insights from performance data, minimising
gaps in performance and enhancing overall team and individual effectiveness;
7. Performance Measurements, Communication and Reporting
Support the Head Coach in reporting efforts to the National Sports Council of Malaysia, the
Malaysia Swimming Federation and other stakeholders on the team’s progress, challenges, and
shifts in strategy;
Provide data and insights to help prepare the Head Coach for media interactions, representing
the team’s achievements and maintaining positive relationships with the public and stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or related field;
2. Minimum of 4 years experience in club, collegiate, or high performance categories with
demonstrable success at the highest level events of that classification;
3. Familiarity with coaching methodologies and technologies predominant in countries like Canada,
UK, USA and Australia;
4. Proven track record in leading, supporting, assisting or managing the development of successful
programmes;
5. Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate
both athletes and coaching staff;
6. Strong understanding of sport science, nutrition, and physiotherapy in the context of elite athlete
