Wesleyan University is seeking a motivated and team-oriented Assistant Swim Coach to support the continued growth and success of its Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving program. This is a part-time position reporting directly to the Head Coach.
Position Overview
The Assistant Swim Coach will play a key role in all aspects of the program, including daily training, athlete development, recruiting, and fostering a positive team culture. The ideal candidate is passionate about coaching, committed to student-athlete development, and excited to contribute to a competitive and evolving program within the NESCAC.
Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Assist in planning and leading daily swim practices
- Provide technical instruction across all strokes, starts, and turns
- Support individualized training and performance development
- Assist with meet preparation, race strategy, and in-competition coaching
- Contribute to dryland and strength programming as needed
Recruiting
- Support recruiting efforts, including identifying prospective student-athletes
- Communicate with recruits via email, phone, and virtual platforms
- Assist with organizing and executing on-campus visits
- Evaluate swim times, video, and academic profiles of prospective students
Team Culture & Operations
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-first environment
- Support team engagement initiatives and student-athlete well-being
- Assist with team logistics, including travel, meet management, and administrative tasks
- Collaborate with the Head Coach, Dive Coach, and support staff (athletic training, strength & conditioning, etc.)
Compliance & Administration
- Adhere to all NCAA, NESCAC, and institutional policies and procedures
- Assist with program organization, communication, and day-to-day operations
Qualifications
- Competitive swimming experience (collegiate preferred)
- Previous coaching experience at the club, high school, or collegiate level preferred
- Strong knowledge of stroke technique and training principles
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
