Wesleyan University is seeking a motivated and team-oriented Assistant Swim Coach to support the continued growth and success of its Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving program. This is a part-time position reporting directly to the Head Coach.

Position Overview

The Assistant Swim Coach will play a key role in all aspects of the program, including daily training, athlete development, recruiting, and fostering a positive team culture. The ideal candidate is passionate about coaching, committed to student-athlete development, and excited to contribute to a competitive and evolving program within the NESCAC.


Responsibilities

Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning and leading daily swim practices
  • Provide technical instruction across all strokes, starts, and turns
  • Support individualized training and performance development
  • Assist with meet preparation, race strategy, and in-competition coaching
  • Contribute to dryland and strength programming as needed

Recruiting

  • Support recruiting efforts, including identifying prospective student-athletes
  • Communicate with recruits via email, phone, and virtual platforms
  • Assist with organizing and executing on-campus visits
  • Evaluate swim times, video, and academic profiles of prospective students

Team Culture & Operations

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-first environment
  • Support team engagement initiatives and student-athlete well-being
  • Assist with team logistics, including travel, meet management, and administrative tasks
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach, Dive Coach, and support staff (athletic training, strength & conditioning, etc.)

Compliance & Administration

  • Adhere to all NCAA, NESCAC, and institutional policies and procedures
  • Assist with program organization, communication, and day-to-day operations

Qualifications

  • Competitive swimming experience (collegiate preferred)
  • Previous coaching experience at the club, high school, or collegiate level preferred
  • Strong knowledge of stroke technique and training principles
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
