Bucknell Hires Josh Huger From Cal As Next Head Coach

Bucknell has named Josh Huger as the next head coach of its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Huger fills the position previously held by Dan Schinnerer who departed the program earlier this summer to become a senior coach with the Nation’s Capital Swim Club, the largest USA Swimming club in the country.

“I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Bucknell swimming and diving program,” said Huger. “I would like to thank vice president for athletics and recreation Tim Pavlechko and senior associate AD Carly Moss for their trust in me. Bucknell’s commitment to excellence, both in the classroom and in competition, makes this an incredibly special place. My family and I are thrilled to become part of the Bucknell community, and we can’t wait to get started. I’m excited to build on the strong foundation already and place and help Bucknell Swimming and Diving continue to reach new heights.”

Huger arrives at Bucknell after most recently spending time at Cal as an associate head coach for the last three seasons. The Cal men captured two ACC titles while the women captured one Pac-12 title during Huger’s time. The Cal men were 2nd at both the 2024 and 2025 NCAA Championships while the women’s team was 4th this past season, their highest finish since 2021.

Prior to arriving at Cal, Huger spent time on the coaching staff at Tennessee, helping the Lady Vols to SEC team titles in both 2020 and 2022. Huger primarily served as the sprint coach, coaching athletes such as NCAA Champion Jordan Crooks.

Huger also has had prior coaching stops at William & Mary as well as at his alma mater Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Huger graduated from IUP in 2011 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and went on to earn a master’s in sport studies in 2012 while serving as an assistant coach for the program. IUP is about a two and a half hour drive away from Bucknell.
