NCAA Qualifier Cecilia Viberg Transferring to Pitt After Two Seasons With Louisville

Cecilia Viberg has announced her transfer to Pitt after spending her first two seasons with Louisville. Viberg entered the portal back at the beginning of April.

Viberg ended her sophomore season at NCAAs, swimming in prelims of the 100 breaststroke as she touched in a 1:01.17 for 48th. Her season best times as a sophomore came from midseason as she swam a 59.66 in the 100 breast and a 2:16.66 in the 200 breast.

This was not Viberg’s first NCAA invite as she also swam at the meet as a freshman. Then Viberg swam a 1:00.35 for 35th in the 100 breast. She also helped Louisville to top 8 finishes in both the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Viberg’s best times are:

  • 100 breast: 59.37
  • 200 breast: 2:13.94

Viberg is a huge addition to the Pitt roster, who sent two individual swimmers to NCAAs this past season. Claire Jansen swam in prelims of the 100 and 200 backstrokes while Sophie Yendell swam in prelims of the 100 fly and 50 free. Yendell just finished her senior season while Jansen finished up her sophomore season.

In addition to being a potential contributor at the NCAA level, Viberg is an instant boost at the ACC level. Viberg scored 5 individual points at ACCs this year, although her best times would have been 6th in the 100 breast and 20th in the 200 breast. Yendell was Pitt’s highest scorer at ACCs with 55 individual points as they finished 9th out of 10 teams.

Viberg also adds plenty of relay potential to the team. The team’s fastest 100 breaststroker this past season was Jessica Strong whose flat start best was a 1:00.69 from midseason and she split a 1:01.69 in the 400 medley relay at 2024 ACCs. Viberg’s flat start best is over a second faster than that.

Seems like quite the downgrade. Must be for school purposes I guess? 🤷🏻‍♂️
