Iowa HS State Champ Alex Stone Verbals to Indiana Hoosiers (2022)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alex Stone of Lane 4 Aquatics in Iowa has verbally committed to Indiana for fall 2022. Stone is a rising senior at Bettendorf High School.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career and the University of Indiana-Bloomington. Go Hoosiers!

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 50 free – 20.44
  • 100 free – 45.17
  • 200 free – 1:37.61
  • 100 fly – 50.64
  • 200 IM – 1:52.96

Stone is primarily a sprint freestyler, though he also brings in potential in sprint fly and IM. His lifetime bests in the 50/100/200 free are all from the 2021 Iowa HS State Championships and 2021 Iowa Senior Championships, which were both in February. Meanwhile, he hit his current bests in the 100 fly and 200 IM at the 2020 Iowa HS State Champs.

At the 2021 high school state meet, which was conducted in timed finals due to the pandemic, Stone collected state titles in the 50 free and 100 free. He also split 20.19 and 43.94 on relays.

Indiana’s sprint group is led by rising senior Jack Franzman and rising sophomore Tomer Frankel, while top sprinter Bruno Blaskovic missed the 2021 championship season due to a serious back injury. Franzman and Frankel are expected to lead the Hoosier men in the sprint free next season, as Blaskovic could be facing up to eight months of recovery and it is unknown if he’ll pursue another NCAA season as this was his senior year in 2020-21.

Stone will suit up with the Hoosiers in 2022 alongside Harry Herrera, Alejandro Kincaid and Drew Reiter in IU’s class of 2026.
