3-Sport Athlete Daniel Baltes Opts to Swim in College; Commits to Buckeyes

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maple Grove, Minnesota’s Daniel Baltes has announced his commitment to The Ohio State University men’s swimming and diving team as a member of the class of 2025.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at The Ohio State University! Thank you to all my family, friends and coaches for supporting and encouraging me. And a special thanks to Rick Paine at ACC Recruits. Go Bucks!!”

Baltes was a three-sport varsity athlete (football, swimming, and track & field) throughout his four years at Maple Grove Senior High School. He was a three-time competitor at the Minnesota State Class AA Boys Swimming and Diving meet (2019-2021), and wrapped up his high school career with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 free in March. At the 2020 MHSL AA State Meet he came in 5th in both the 50/100 free events (21.06/46.34).

He broke two individual and two relay team records during his time at Maple Grove and was awarded team captain his senior year. He was named to the All-Conference team four times and to the All-State team twice.

Baltes just started swimming club this season. He competed in November with NHCP Tunas Swim Club at the TUNA Mask-que, his only USA Swimming-sanctioned meet.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free: 20.63
  • 100 free: 45.06

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving class of 2025 will also consist of Alex Quach, Clay Chaplin, Grafton Parlette, Josh Bogniard, Karl Helmuth, Luke Paxton, Michael Cooper, Michael Parker, Tim Kalin, and William Bansberg.

Baltes is a beast. Coached against him for several years. Glad to see him moving on!! Hahaha. Seriously though. He came out of nowhere and has just exploded. Ohio State did a great job of finding someone with tremendous upside.

I think there are many fast swimmers that would disagree. “Fish out of water” comes to mind.

Congratulation Daniel. I was fun to work with him. Also congratulations to Bill Dorenkott for being able to see Daniel’s potential. How many football players get to swim at Ohio State?

Gotta love multi sport athletes! Every year I recruit athletes from the fall sports! I even have a cross training group for fall and spring athletes. Can always find one or two sprinters out of that group.
