Women’s 10-Meter Platform – Prelims
13 athletes locked in Olympic quota spots in women’s 10-meter on Tuesday morning, local time. Most notable was Tanya Watson, who earned Ireland’s first-ever Olympic bid in women’s diving.
Watson was 16th out of preliminaries. 18 divers qualify for the semifinals, and 18 is also the all-important cutoff for automatic Olympic quota spots. (Places beyond 18 can earn Olympic bids, but only if there are unused quota spots to be re-allocated).
Malaysia’s Cheong Jun Hyoong qualified first out of prelims, diving to a nine-point lead over Russia’s Yulia Timoshinina.
Semifinals and the final will take place on Wednesday along with Day 5’s events.

Women’s 3-Meter Springboard – Final
In Tuesday’s evening session, the women’s 3-meter finalists competed for final placement, with Olympic spots already sewn up.
China’s Chen Yiwen was clearly a cut above the field the entire way through, and she easily coasted to a gold medal in the final. Chen’s 383.55 bested American Sarah Bacon by almost 35 points for gold.
Bacon held on for silver, splitting up a potential Chinese 1-2. She finished about four points ahead of Chang Yani, the bronze medalist. Mexico’s 18-year-old Aranza Vazquez was about 17 points behind Chang for bronze with Canada’s Jennifer Abel fifth.

Men’s 10-Meter Platform – Final
It was equally a blowout on the men’s side, with Great Britain’s Tom Daley crushing the field. His 541.70 topped all other divers by 27 points.
Mexico’s Randal Willars was second and Canada’s Rylan Wiens third. Both are just 19 years old. They bested 25-year-old German Timo Barthel for the minor medals.
