Five locations will host some of the top athletes this week. Four meets begin on Wednesday and run through Saturday while Richmond’s location begins Thursday and concludes on Sunday.

Austin Location

The Austin location has a mix of club-aged swimmers and collegiate swimmers. Highlighting the club swimmers is Audrey Derivaux who made the final of the women’s 400 IM at US Olympic Trials at the age of 14. Madi Mintenko also is scheduled to be in attendance in Austin. Michael Cotter recently announced his transfer to Texas after beginning his collegiate career at NC State and is on the psych sheets as well. Dakota Luther is entered in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Santo Condorelli will also compete this week and was notably ruled ineligible to compete at US Olympic Trials.

Minneapolis Location

Teagan O’Dell will make the trip to Minneapolis from California and is the top seed in the 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, and 200 back. Maggie Wanezek is the top seed in the 100 back and also highlights the meet.

Sacramento Location

46 year old Gabrielle Rose made headlines at US Olympic Trials making semifinals of the breaststroke events and will continue her career in Sacramento as the top seed in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. She also is slated to swim the 100 free and 200 IM.

Huntsville Location

15 year old Rylee Erisman finaled in the women’s 50 free at US Trials and is the top seed in the event along with the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 back this week. With his siblings at the Olympics, Andrew Shackell is entered in six events.

Richmond Location

The Richmond location begins a day later. Daniel Diehl is the biggest name in Richmond and is the top seed in all four of his events, the 100 free, 200 free, 100 back, and 200 back. Diehl notably finished 6th in the 200 back at US Trials. Cal commit and US Junior Pan Pac roster member Norvin Clontz will swim in 8 events this weekend.

sorry to ask, but what makes these athletes choose to compete at futures versus the summer champs?

Convenience. Neither option is giving them a particularly-high level of competition, and without incentive to fly across the country to Southern California, they’re just choosing the closer option.

Except Teagan O’Dell flying from Southern California to Minnesota? Maybe her family wants to check out the Mall of America???

Oh true that’s weird, but to be fair, Minneapolis in the summer is a pretty amazing place to be.

I’ll be at the Minneapolis event to cheer on my niece who is swimming in 5 events and I rarely get to see her swim in person. Sadly can’t make all the prelims because work, but they are streaming everything at least.

Good to see Condorelli in it. He loves swimming and he loves competing.

Interesting, seemed like Dakota announced her retirement on Instagram after Trials. Perhaps a run at 2028 is in her future!

I was going to say I thought that she retired, but perhaps this is the elite-level equivalent of my first post-collegiate summer. (I was home with my parents, doing temp work, and waiting to start grad school in the fall. I’d sworn off competitive swimming 3 months earlier after my college season ended, but with nothing else to do, found myself training with the Masters division of my former club.)
