San Diego’s Zhou Brothers Commit to Chicago and Johns Hopkins for 2022-23

San Diego, California’s Shawn Zhou and Jerry Zhou have announced their verbal commitments to swim at two different NCAA Division III schools beginning in the 2022-23 school year.

The brothers are rising seniors at La Jolla Country Day School. They swim year-round for Rancho San Dieguito.

Shawn Zhou – Johns Hopkins University

“I’m ecstatic to verbally commit to Johns Hopkins University!! I’d like to thank my parents, brother, friends, and coach Joe for all the support, and thank coach Scott for giving me this amazing opportunity! Go Blue Jays!!”

Shawn is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 free and a Futures qualifier in the 200 free. At the 2021 CIF San Diego Section Division II Championships this spring, he came in 4th in the 50 free (21.27) and 4th in the 100 free (45.96), clocking a PB in the 50 in prelims. He also led off the 200 and 400 free relays. Earlier in April he notched best times in the 100/200 free at a RSD-hosted time trial.

Jerry Zhou – University of Chicago

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Chicago. I would like to thank my parents for their unconditional support, my brother for his fun companion, and Coach Joe Benjamin for his insight and wisdom. I would also like to thank my friends for their positivity and encouragement. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Jason for offering me a spot at such an amazing university to further my education and swimming. Go Maroons!”

Jerry won the 100 fly at 2021 CIF San Diego Section Division II Championships with a lifetime-best time of 49.68. He also placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:42.68) and anchored both freestyle relays. He recently competed at Fran Crippen SMOC and picked up new PBs in the LCM 50 fly (25.77), 100 fly (57.90), 50 free (24.78), and 100 free (53.98).
