McEvoy, Winnington & Lewis In Action On Relay Day Of Queensland C’ships

2019 QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2019 Queensland Championships got underway at Brisbane Aquatic Center tonight, with club relays taking up the day 1 session. That meant we got to see stars like Cameron McEvoy, Elijah Winnington and Clyde Lewis bundled with their squadmates in the quest for meet titles as a team.

3-time relay medalist from this summer’s World Championships, Lewis led-off his St. Peters Western men’s 200m medley relay with a split of 25.96, handing off the reigns to Michael Ng who produced a breaststroke leg of 29.79.

Cameron Jones kept it going with a fly split of 23.51 before Max Carleton brought it home for the SPW win in the men’s 200m medley relay in a collective effort of 1:42.32.

Of note, on TSS Aquatics’ same relay, which took bronze, McEvoy led-off on backstroke in a 27.15 opener.

SPW also took gold in the women’s 200m medley relay, with 15-year-old Mollie O’Callaghan starting things off with a split of 28.41. That gave Abbey Harkin clean water for the breaststroke leg of 32.04, while Olivia Collins and Meg Harris sealed the deal with back half splits of 27.50 and 24.74, respectively.

Harris and O’Callaghan also did damage as part of the SPW women’s winning 200m free relay squad, which topped the podium in a mark of 1:42.41. Harris led-off in 25.60, followed by O’Callaghan’s leg of 25.22 before Mia Collins and Mia O’Leary did their parts to clock respective splits of 25.91 and 25.68.

It was Rackley who grabbed the men’s 200m free gold, led by veteran sprinter William Stockwell. The 24-year-old punched a 23.11 lead-off, followed by Louis Townsend registering a split of 22.17. 21-year-old Lachlan Carter clocked 22.92 on leg 3 before another teen, 17-year-old Thomas Neill, finished it off in a time of 22.54.

McEvoy was a member of TSS Aquatics’ squad that took runner-up, leading off in 22.95, while Elijah Winnington helped his Bond squad get bronze. Winnington produced a split of 23.18 tonight to open the meet.

I miss peak Cam McEvoy. Such an exciting and different swimmer. Slim dude, 21.3 or 5 I think and 47.0. Imagine the battle between him, Dressel and Chalmers if he were to regain form. It seems like his speed came not from being an absolute physical unit but just swimming really, really, really well. I think he’s got more in the tank someday.

Cam you got this!!!

I think they might fly out on Sunday as they don’t seem to be entered in individual events eg. men’s open 200 free is second event Sunday and Winnington is not entered .

Concur. Winnington not entered in 400fr nor McEvoy in 100fr nor any later days. Whilst McEvoy may not have proven a big hitter for Roar and may be only relay selection, Winnington won at 400fr and potentially a player at 200

Both of them already posted on Instagram that they’re going to Vegas. There are also Europeans swimming meets in Europe this week before heading to Vegas.
