Kamminga Continues Siege With 55.99 SCM 100 Breaststroke Dutch Record

2021 SPEEDO FAST WATER MEET

  • Sunday, July 4th – Tuesday, July 7th
  • Amsterdam, the Netherlands
  • SCM (25m)

Immediately on the heels of racing long course at the Amsterdam Swim Meet which just concluded yesterday, 25-year-old Dutch ace Arno Kamminga tried short course on for size in the same city.

While racing in the prelims of the men’s 100m breast at the Speedo Fast Water Meet, Kamminga clocked the quickest SCM time of his career, punching the wall in 55.99.

Splitting 26.23/29.76, Kamminga’s time overtook his own previous Dutch national standard of 56.06, a time he produced in Glasgow at the 2019 European Short Cousre Championships. That rendered him as the gold medalist there, with the Dutchman also reaping the top prize in the 200m distance.

With his performance in these prelims this morning, Kamminga enters the list of top 5 performers all-time in this SCM 100m breast. With his .07 time drop, Kamminga overtakes Russia’s Kirill Prigoda as the 5th fastest man ever.

All-Time Men’s SCM 100 Breaststroke Performers:

  1. Ilya Shymanovich (BLR) – 55.34 2020
  2. Adam Peaty (GBR) – 55.41, 2020
  3. Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) – 55.61, 2009
  4. Emre Sakci (TUR) – 55.74, 2020
  5. Arno Kamminga (NED) – 55.99, 2021

As mentioned, Kamminga raced long course over the weekend, also in Amsterdam. The man produced super-quick outings of 58.52 in the 100m breast and 2:07.48 in the 200m breast. This season, Kamminga already ranks #2 in the world in the shorter event (57.90) and 3rd in the world in the longer distance (2:06.85).

Martinenghi doesn’t have the most legal pullout either tbh.

off topic but how fast does anyone think dressel could go in LCM 100 breast? I think 59 mid to high? Or am i a stupid idiot for thinking that?

His short course 100 breast is heavily predicated on how good he is off the blocks and his push off the wall.

If he trained for it? Sure. But, let’s say full taper but without any special training for it? I’m thinking 1:00-mid.

He was going to give Peaty a race according to these boards at one point.

1:02. Comparing him to Koseki in SCM, it already becomes apparent that his actual swim speed isn’t fast enough in breast for long course, where the power of Dressel’s best in history starts and turns are diminished.

Van Der Burgh’s 55.61 was in 2009, not 2010. I’m not sure what database you pulled the rankings from but I do know the FINA database does have a few 2009 swims mislabeled as being in 2010.

Much easier to do when there’s no one to race…

And if someone swims slowly and wins by a mile, then is that because there was no competition?

This may be the most idiotic take since Cody was sure he wouldn’t get 8th…

Good thing this article prefaced that it was SCM, or we would’ve all lost our minds
