Under the direction of the­­­­­­­­­­­ Director of Age Group Swimming and the Association Director of Competitive Swimming, the YOTA Age Group Site Coach is responsible for the leadership and direction of the YMCA’s Competitive Swimming program at the Kerr site. They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees

  • Provides vision, leadership, and management of the day-to-day operations of the successful, values-oriented YMCA of the Triangle competitive swimming program for our YMCA site that includes multiple age group levels.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity.  On-boards and develops them for success.
  • Provides vision, leadership, and management to the part time staff that includes coaching and leadership traits to ensure a high-quality swim program.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Leads implementation of open, clear, consistent and effective communication with athletes, parents, branch staff, volunteers and coaches.
  • Abides by the YMCA of the USA Swimming and Diving, ASCA, and USA Swimming Code of Ethics. Serves as an ambassador to the community by actively promoting the YMCA aquatics and wellness programs.
  • Maintains open communication with participants, parents, YOTA staff and all YMCA Aquatics staff members.
  • Works with Association Director of Competitive Swimming Team to establish annual program goals and work toward accomplishing these goals.
  • Plans, prepares, and conducts team practices in accordance with program objectives, guidelines, and policies including attendance records, skill reviews and training plans.
  • Prepares and submits all necessary information for swim meets and attend meets as assigned.
  • Supports the Association Director of Competitive Swimming by monitoring the budget and adhering to the budget philosophy of the YMCA of the Triangle.
  • Assists in Annual Campaign by recruiting volunteers and supporting team events in coordination with campaign efforts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred with at least 3 years coaching experience including age group coaching.
  • Models a commitment to the YMCA Mission, Cause, values and leadership competency model.
  • ASCA level 3 swimming coach certifications preferred.
  • Strong ability to be an engaging presence leading staff and programs.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven skills in human relations, public speaking, program management, and volunteer development.
  • Outstanding communication skills, the ability to determine and set priorities, manage his/her staff members work schedule; as well as the capacity to handle multiple tasks appropriately in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
  • Maintain necessary certifications including CPR, First Aid, Coaches Safety Training and Lifeguard training.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive required.

Part-Time Assistant Coach, Men’s and Women’s Swim

The Assistant Swimming Coach is responsible for assisting the head swimming coach in all aspects of coaching. Involving recruiting, retaining members, and overall, in-season/off-season strategies/programs. The Assistant Swimming Coach will also serve in a second college assigned position: Housing Assistant. The employment in the above position is contingent upon the Assistant Swimming Coach being employed in both assigned positions.

Wage: $4,000 for 12 months Coaching and $12,000 for 12 months Housing Assistant (no benefits). Room and board included (live-in position).’

Examples of Duties
Constant (67-100%)
Assist the head coach in managing and directing the swimming program.
Asist the head swimming coach with all aspects of the team including training, competing, and scheduling.
Assist with academic progress of students athletes.
Assists with recruiting including calling and high school visits of prospective student athlete.

Frequent (34-66%)
Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, NJCAA and ICCAC with the utmost integrity.
Travel outside the Area V recruitment areas.
Responsible for distribution and accumulation of grades for team, as well as grade checks.
Implementing off season workouts.

Occasional (10-33%)

Assist head coach with fundraising projects.
Attend meetings as necessary.
Assist in the promotion and support of the department.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The Durango Swim Club (DSC) is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time, hourly Assistant Coach for its USA Swimming Club Team. DSC is a USA Swim Club and operates as a 501c3 non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.

The Durango Swim Club is a competitive team that trains over 80 swimmers year-round from the developmental level of the college bound athlete and offers 4 different training levels. DSC operates out of an indoor, city managed, 8-lane 25 yard pool and has swimmers compete at local, state, sectional and regional levels. The core mission of DSC is to foster self-awareness in all stages of the training process and encourage athletes to take ownership of their preparation and performance. Durango, Colorado is located six hours southwest of Denver and three hours from Albuquerque, NM.

Desired Candidate Professional Skill and Abilities

● Enthusiasm and passion for the development of young athletes, at all skill levels

● Works well in collaboration with Head Coach and other Assistant Coach.

● Good communication skills with young athletes and parents as well as other coaching staff

● Ability to coach athletes from 7-13 years old

● Demonstrates working knowledge of competitive swimming strokes, techniques of competitive swimming/physical conditioning, rules, and regulations. Required

● All certifications are current and in good standing with Colorado Swimming and USA Swimming

● Safe Sport compliant
