Position Summary

The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the swim club program and coaching staff. Minimum Qualifications

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide training appropriate for swim club members and instruction of skills and techniques appropriate to the level of the swimmer; organize, order, and supervise practice sessions, set team goals for each practice session, and provide a nurturing athletic environment for the advancement of each individual member.
  • Be the primary instructional coach with most hours spent on deck coaching and leading.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Deputy Athletics Director for Student Services, the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach is responsible for organizing, developing, and administering all functions related to coaching a nationally competitive Division I Swimming and Diving team. Fundamental duties include but are not limited to practice, game planning and game strategy, recruiting Prospective Student-Athletes, Student-Athlete skill development, technique and mentorship, Student-Athlete off the field comprehensive development, and administrative responsibilities as it relates to alumni, fundraising, media, and budget management. This position collaborates with Intercollegiate Athletics staff members, medical services, academic support, compliance, equipment management, and institutional partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.) Practice, Meet Planning and Meet Strategy

Organize and communicate pre-season, competition season and off-season practices. Strategically assign assistant coaches’ roles, schedule competitions, and manage rosters. Prepare competition plans, create and communicate player roles and responsibilities, oversee pre-competition and post-competition arrangements and procedures, and oversee film requirements.

2.) Recruiting

Design and implement the overall program recruiting strategy. Evaluate, rank, and recruit local, regional, national, and international Prospective Student-Athletes. Establish and cultivate relationships with local and national high school and junior college coaches. Strategically recruit Prospective Student-Athletes who understand the University’s mission and the Intercollegiate Athletics desire for Comprehensive Excellence.

3.) Student-Athlete Skill Development, Technique and Mentorship

Develop the Swimming and Diving Student-Athletes athletically and mentally so that they can maximize their potential as swimmers and divers. In addition, be an active participant in their development out of the pool. This includes, but is not limited to educational, personal, professional, character and career development, community engagement, harm reduction/safety and awareness, and life skills.

4.) Administrative

Function as an ambassador by attending Intercollegiate Athletics, alumni, university, booster club and fundraising events. Work with the Sports Information Director to participate in approved media requests. Manage scheduling, team travel, recruiting travel, pre-season camp, and conduct Student-Athlete meetings. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches. Develop program specific alumni engagement strategies. Oversee program’s finances, budgeting, and administration of athletic scholarship allocation.

5.) Compliance

Create and maintain an environment and culture of compliance to NCAA and Summit League rules and regulations with Coaches, Staff, and Student-Athletes. In addition, safeguard the reputation of the University by understanding risk management guidelines.

6.) Additional duties as assigned by the VP and Director of Athletics and Deputy Athletics Director for Student Services.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Seven years relevant collegiate level coaching experience
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history

This is a leadership position that will support and carry out the Vision, Values, and Behaviors of the club through leadership, development, and setting the direction of the Age Group Program. Included in the position is the role of Lifeguard and Aquatics Manager which will require the oversight and management of lifeguards and other relevant Aquatics Staff. Also included is the role of the Master’s Swim Team Coach. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Elk Grove Aquatics Club (EGAC) is a year-round USA Swim competitive age group swim team in Elk Grove, California. We are a mid-size swim club with over 120 swimmers. We have hosted various championship meets including the Western Zone Age Group Championships in 2022. We swim in a 50 meter pool located in a new facility in the heart of Elk Grove, CA. Due to the approaching retirement of our existing Head Coach, we are in search of one who will take our team to the next level.

The Head Coach is the leader of the Gator’s congregation of the Elk Grove Aquatics Club. This individual is responsible for leading, instructing, and molding our swimmers to be well-rounded athletes – either directly or indirectly through our age group coaches. This person must be able to work with the Board of Directors at EGAC, the parents, the swim community, our community partners, and most importantly, our swimmers. This includes program management and development, team instruction, assistant coach staff management, mentorship, supervision, and social program coordination to create an exciting and safe program for participating swimmers.
The Head Coach is an integral part of the Board of Directors and possesses one vote. They are responsible for the “Wet Side” of the team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Is a member in good standing with USA Swimming and has all required certifications.
Has four or more years of competitive coaching experience with age-group swimmers
Has prior leadership experience in training, mentoring, managing, and developing assistant coaches.

COACHING AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

Donaldson Run Recreation Association (DRRA) is a member-owed, neighborhood pool and recreational facility in north Arlington, VA. The facility includes a main pool, a baby pool, a bathhouse, a snack bar, picnic area, basketball court, parking lot, and extensive grounds. Our pool participates in the Northern VA Swimming and Diving Leagues, holds recreational fitness classes, and hosts numerous social events. We are seeking an experienced, personable, and hard-working General Pool Manager to manage our pool and facility operations during the spring/summer swim season and as-needed throughout the winter/fall off-season.
Summary of Responsibilities
The General Pool Manager will oversee, operate, and maintain the pool facilities, equipment, and grounds, and manage all DRRA pool staff. The General Pool Manager reports to the DRRA Board President and is the ultimate on-site authority for pool safety and adherence to DRRA Policy and Regulations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Maintain the pool facilities, equipment, and grounds in-season and during the off-season.
2. Prepare the pool and facilities for opening during the pre-season.
3. Manage daily pool, bathhouse, and snack bar operations during the swim season from early-May to mid-September, including the following:
• Ensure pool facilities are always operated in a safe manner and that all safety regulations, practices, and pool rules are followed by the staff and DRRA members
• Create and maintain pool operating schedule, including team practices, swim/dive meets, special events, and other activities
• Create a work schedule for all pool staff, including Assistant Managers, Lifeguards, Front-desk staff, Snack Bar Manager, and Snack Bar staff, and ensure all shifts are filled
• Conduct staff training sessions, supervise daily work activities, handle staff discipline, and assess staff performance
• Approve staff timesheets and prepare payroll information in a timely manner
• Operate the snack bar in an orderly, efficient, safe, and fiscally prudent manner in accordance with Arlington County health code requirements; maintain adequate inventory of snack bar items
4. Winterize the pool and facilities after the pool closes for the season in September.
5. Support the interviewing, selection, and hiring or seasonal staff, as-needed.
Hours and Compensation
The General Pool Manager is expected to work on a full-time basis (minimum of 40 hours per week) when the pool is open during the swim season and during the pre-season pool opening period and post-season pool closing period. The General Pool Manager is expected to work on-site at the DRRA facility when on-duty, although some tasks may be performed remotely.
During the off-season, the General Pool Manager is expected to work on an as-needed basis to maintain pool facilities and grounds, support capital facility projects, and support staff recruiting/hiring if needed. The General Pool Manager must attend and participate in monthly DRRA Board of Directors Meetings.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
• Prior experience or significant knowledge of swimming pool operations.
• Prior experience managing staff, including minors aged 15-18.
• Associate’s degree, 4-year college degree, or equivalent work experience required.
• Active Lifeguard certification, CPR, and first aid certification (or prior lifeguard certification, CPR, and first aid certification with the ability to obtain current certification prior to May 2020).
• Active pool operator certification (CPO) (or verifiable relevant experience plus ability and commitment to obtain such certification prior to May 2024).
• Active “standard” food safety manager certification for Arlington, Virginia (or ability and commitment to obtain such certification before May 2024).
• Available to work full-time from the beginning of May (prior to pool opening) through the end of September (after pool closing).
• Must take and pass all appropriate background checks.
• Prior experience maintaining and repairing mechanical systems, supervising a food service establishment, or overseeing landscaping and grounds maintenance is a plus.

Head Coach  

The mission statement of the Grand Lakes Gator Swim Team (GLST) is to provide a structured and safe learning environment through fun and exercise in a competitive spirit while promoting a positive role in the community.

The Board has identified three objectives for the swim team, in priority order:

  • Have fun (this is a Recreational Swim League)

Role Description:

  • The Head Coach is to implement policies and achieve objectives developed by the Board
  • The Head Coach is accountable for the preparation of the swimmers for swim meets in accordance with the three primary objectives
  • The Head Coach is also accountable for the development of the skills of the coaching staff, both Volunteer Crew Members and Paid Coaches.

 

Specific duties of the Head Coach include the following:

 

  • Attend all practices, meets and spirit events
  • Act as a role model for the coaching staff and swimmers
  • Design practices to achieve the team objectives
  • Work directly with the swimmers, especially to improve swimming technique
  • Supervise the coaching staff, both paid and volunteer, to ensure execution of practices
  • Communicate absences/tardiness of paid staff with Board liaison
  • Ensure a fair and equitable distribution of work between the coaching staff according to their job descriptions and the capabilities of the individual coaches
  • Provide timely and specific performance feedback to the coaching staff with a balanced emphasis on strengths as well as improvement opportunities
  • Attend weekly coach’s meetings with coaching staff and Board liaison
  • Ensure that coaching staff is setting up/cleaning up the pool as required
  • Train coaches to use the heating software – Swimtopia/Meet Manager – for meets
  • Provide final review of heat sheets
  • Serve as the liaison between the Grand Lakes Swim Team Board and the coaching staff
  • Complete WHALe required training as necessary

 

Schedule and Time Commitment:

The GLST season runs from Mid-April/beginning of May until the end of June. Practices begin during the last week of April and are held after school. Once school is out, practices will primarily occur in the morning. Swim meets scheduled throughout the end of May and the month of June. Post season meets are held at the end of June culminating with an All Stars meet before July 1st.  The Head Coach is expected to attend all practices, swim meets and spirit events.

 

Qualifications:

 

The following are the minimum qualifications for the Head Coach:

 

  • Head Coach must have competitive swimming experience.
  • Head coach must be an adult of 18 years or older.
  • Head Coach must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard or WSI, First Aid and CPR Certification and any additional training as required by the league.
  • Head Coach must have previous coaching experience.
  • Head Coach should be able to supervise and direct the activities of other coaches and 200+ swimmers.
  • Head Coach should have interpersonal skills to interface with swimmers, coaches, parents and the swim team board.
  • Head Coach agrees not to coach other recreational swim teams during the swim season.
  • Comfortable with the use of meet management software to place swimmers in events.
  • Education experience preferred.

 

The board will conduct a mid-season review of the Head Coach’s achieved objectives as outlined in the Coach Review document attached to this agreement.  A constructive assessment will be used to improve/encourage coaching techniques.  Head Coach will be reviewed again at the end of the season.

 

The Head Coach pay will consist of the agreed salary amount.  A bonus may be paid at the end of the season.  Any bonus paid will be based on the head coach’s completion of duties as specified, the overall improvement of the swimmers, and the availability of funds for the team.  You will receive a 1099 form as required by the IRS for any monies received from the team.

The Head Swim Coach is charged with supervising, instructing, and coaching all participants enrolled in the swim club while fostering an environment focused on learning and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.  On going communication to athletes and families is required.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Designs and implements a wide variety of swim training programs. Aids with swim club program design.

 

Serves as the liaison between the Parks, Recreation, & Culture Department and USA Swimming.

 

Communicates effectively with swim club members, member families, potential members and their families, other coaches, staff, meet officials, and supervisors.

 

Assists with the recruitment and development of coaching staff and athletes.

Terms and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Head FUNdamental Coach, oversee and directly supervise all scheduled age group practices, age group meets and age group team activities 
  • Be available for meetings with the CGAC Board of Directors and CGAC coaching staff.
  • Maintain and promote a positive culture within the CGAC organization
  • Maintain a high level of speech, dress, and behavior that would be generally required in any business setting
  • Report to location at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled session and stay until all swimmers have been picked up by parent guardian, all clean-up has been completed, and/or all work has been completed.

Woodledge Pool Club, located in Glastonbury, CT, is looking for a head coach for their summer swim team.  The Woodledge Whales participate in the CAAPSC summer swim league and are looking for an enthusiastic coach with a love and knowledge of swimming to work with kids of all ages.

Our swim team is focused on creating a safe, fun and inclusive learning environment where kids are given every opportunity to maximize their potential while gaining confidence in the water and building lasting community relationships among our families.  We stress sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth and development.  We encourage our swimmers to do their best while cheering on their teammates.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •       Plan, prepare and conduct team practices for a large team of swimmers across all age groups and abilities
  •       Oversee several assistant coaches and guide them to ensure swimmers are receiving helpful feedback and developing in their abilities
  •       Communicate with parents and swimmers to promote good sportsmanship, strong team spirit and proper discipline.


HOURS:  Hours will vary but will include the following:

  •       Available for initial season planning beginning in the spring
  •       Available for several league meetings which begin in early June and end the week prior to Championships
  •       Practices begin early to mid-June and are run in the mornings, Monday through Friday 8:30 to 11:30 am
  •       Dual meets run on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings
  •       Must be available for meet planning.  This will entail reaching out to opposing coaches prior to all dual meets and working with assistant coaches to complete line-up for all dual meets.  Meet planning is also required for the end of the season league Championship meet.  Line-ups will need to be set up in Hy-tek prior to all meets.
  •       League Championship meet wraps up the season and will occur by the end of July

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •       Must have current CPR and first aid certification
  •       Must have an understanding of competitive swimming, stroke mechanics, and USA swimming rules and regulations
  •       Possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff and the community
  •       Strong organizational skills
  •       Prior coaching experience recommended
