PSL is a local, community-focused club with 160 USA Swimming registered swimmers training and competing under the Pacifica Sea Lions name as one of Northern San Mateo County’s most successful and established competitive swim teams with over 60 years of tradition and history. PSL is a year-round competitive program that offers opportunities for all levels of swimmers. The team supports a broad range of swimmers, from the 6-year-old beginner to the 18-year-old National Qualifier. Our mission at the Pacifica Sea Lions is to inspire our members to achieve their maximum swimming potential through high-quality coaching and self-motivation with the goal of team unity in a safe and supportive environment for all.

Our highly-trained and qualified coaching professionals guide each swimmer’s career from entry-level to National competition. We focus on training the whole athlete, including mental and emotional health, dryland exercise (which includes injury prevention routines and strength & conditioning circuits), training and racing strategies, and a strong emphasis on technical proficiency in the water. A primary focus is teamwork and building a strong sense of community in a safe environment.  

Our team trains in the Jean E. Brink Pool, a 10-lane, 25-yard short-course indoor aquatics facility located at Oceana High School in Pacifica, California. PSL hosts multiple competitions per year with the support of its family volunteers. BASIC FUNCTIONS – HEAD COACH

• Promotes and encourages a positive, progressive, inclusive, supportive, and winning culture while being a pervasive leader, serving as the Head Coach for the entire team.

Compensation: Salary will range from $60-75K depending on experience. Health insurance and retirement matching benefits will be provided. Employee will be eligible for thrice-yearly bonuses. Essential Duties include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration (60%)

1. Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (as defined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association) for the sport. Non-traditional (or out-of-season) season practices may be required;

1. Assist the head coach to serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition;

1. Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process;

1. Help plan and coordinate team travel;

1. Help develop and implement fund-raising strategies;

1. Assist the head coach to complete in-and off-season scheduling for the program;

1. Work within NCAA guidelines regarding the start of the season, dates of competition, and end of the season;

Recruiting (30%)

1. Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as pre-approved by the Director of Athletics;

1. Work with the head coach and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective student-athletes, both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College;

1. Must be able to recruit during the summer;

1. Must be able to work weekends & travel.

Site Management (10%)

Represent the Department of Athletics at selected home athletic events.
