Assistant Swimming Coach- Diving

The assistant coach for diving will assist the head coach in all aspects of the program that participates in NCAA Division I competition. Specifically, this position works with members of the dive team to train them in the proper mechanics of diving.  The assistant coach is responsible for the concerns and welfare of his/her student athletes.  This includes monitoring the academic performance and furthering the success of the team in meeting academic and eligibility criteria set forth by the university and the NCAA.  The assistant coach is responsible for the safety, behavior and appearance of the student-athletes and managers under his/her direction while representing the university.  This includes all facets of daily interaction with academic, resident and student life communities as well as all entities involved in travel and competition for away contests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist head coach with all aspects of coaching and instructing.
  • Conduct conditioning programs, encompassing recognized and approved methods of improving power, speed, strength and aerobic performance, consistent with industry safety and health standards.
  • As a position or event specialist, evaluate student-athletes to identify strengths and deficiencies, and design instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution based on sound motor learning and bio-mechanical principles.
  • Assist in conducting and supervising all practice and conditioning sessions, as is deemed appropriate.
  • Coordinate the strength and conditioning program with the department strength and conditioning coach.
  • Incorporate position specific learning opportunities into daily practice design as directed by head coach.


  • As an NCAA certified recruiter, successfully research, scout, evaluate and contact prospective student-athletes while operating within the scope of the department, Big East Conference and NCAA regulations at all times.
  • As an on-campus recruiter, collaborate with other department and university staff in designing official and unofficial visits in compliance with all university, Big East Conference and NCAA regulations.
  • Establish and develop relationships with appropriate high school and junior college officials, amateur club coaches, and coaches within the sport’s national governing body for public relations purposes, thus positioning the university nationally.


  • Assistant Coach is expected to conduct him/herself in a loyal, honest, responsible, ethical and professional manner at all times.
  • Conduct periodic review and evaluation of program goals, analyzing findings, identifying areas requiring improvement, and pursuing more efficient methods and processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and use master recruit databases to support decision-making, assessments, evaluations, and program review.
  • Extract, manipulate, and analyze complex data for recruiting purposes from databases such as the student data warehouse, National Student Clearinghouse, and other data sources.
  • Design and maintain historical databases to be used for trend analysis. Conduct analysis and provide support on projects ranging from student athlete enrollment studies to coaching trends.
  • Maintain, monitor and archive all required records and paperwork per regulatory requirements (e.g. state, federal and NCAA compliance).
  • Maintain documentation of sources of information and completed projects
  • Keep current in knowledge about issues affecting the athletic program, including internal and external events, discussions and concerns.
  • May be responsible for producing manuals or electronic publications for summer conditioning, technical play books, and team handbooks.
  • Assist with or manage awards (e.g. annual participation/letter awards, special achievement award and post-season or championship awards) per departmental policy and NCAA rules.
  • In coordination with the Equipment Manager, monitor the condition of equipment and request repairs or replacement as necessary.
  • Must understand and comply with all NCAA and Big East rules and regulations at all times.

Required Qualifications:

Brief Description of Duties:

This position is an Assistant Coach for a Division I program in the sport of Women’s Swimming and Diving and will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a successful program. The primary focus of this position will be placed on the assistant’s use of independent judgment and discretion in the identification & recruitment of prospective student-athletes, their awarding of athletics scholarships, their teaching and skill development of those student-athletes during their athletic and educational tenure at Stony Brook University, and in the extensive daily administrative operations of their respective sport program. In addition, the Assistant Coach will be evaluated on the extent to which he/she provides each student-athlete a positive, meaningful, educational experience through athletics. The Assistant Coach is also expected to execute other program related duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach. A highly qualified candidate will have both excellent organization and communication skills.

Student-Athlete Teaching and Coaching

Team and Competition Preparation/Skill Instruction: The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with the instruction of the student-athletes on how best to perform in their sport. The incumbent will support the Head Coach in teaching all basic and advanced skills required in the sport of Women’s Swimming and Diving. The teaching of these skills and the development of those student-athletes occurs year round during individual skill sessions, team practices, and conditioning sessions (independent of the Head Coach). This includes the independent development and implementation of sound and safe practice plans that successfully prepare the student-athletes with the fundamentals of the specific sport. In addition, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating upcoming opponents by breaking down game tapes, preparing a scouting report for the student-athletes and advising the Head Coach on making adjustments to the game plan during contests.

Student-Athlete Development – Academic Success and Life Skills:

The Assistant Coach, working in conjunction with the office of Student-Athlete Development, will oversee the academic success of the student-athlete and assist with academic problems. This includes, providing guidance/counseling and support (as necessary) as well as supervising and monitoring study halls (as assigned), checking class attendance, and organizing weekly and monthly (one on one) academic meetings with each student-athlete to track their progress by semester, by major, and by degree requirements. This also includes support of Life Skill Education and the overall mental health and wellness of all student-athletes.


The Assistant Coach will use independent discretion and judgment in identifying student-athletes capable of competing both academically and athletically at Stony Brook University. He/She will play a decisive role in the subsequent active recruitment of those identified student-athletes and more importantly he/she will award athletics scholarships, either independently or in conjunction with the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing an assigned recruiting territory and identifying prospective student-athletes through thorough research, by independently evaluating talent at local & national events, and initiating correspondence and maintaining relationship with coaches and prospects. The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing a database of prospects and maintaining records of contacts, to remain in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University regulations. The Assistant Coach must propose, manage and adhere to a recruiting budget for each of the events attended.

Administrative Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach, which include, but not limited to, team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program. The Assistant Coach is required to work independently with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents (i.e. Financial Aid, Admissions, & Registrar) in carrying out these tasks.

NCAA Rules Compliance

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Women’s Swimming and Diving program. To be eligible to recruit off-campus, the Assistant Coach must pass the NCAA Recruiting Exam on an annual basis.

Other duties as assigned as appropriate based on rank and departmental mission

* Failure to comply with NCAA regulations can result in suspension without pay, termination, fines, institutional loss of scholarship and bans on post-season competition.

This is a part time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Night and weekend work will be required.

Swim Streamline Full time Age Group / Senior Coach

Swim Streamline at Northampton (SSAN) is seeking qualified applicants for the following position: FULL-TIME AGE GROUP / SENIOR COACH who is energetic, knowledgeable, and able to communicate with parents, fellow coaches and swimmers of all ages. SSAN is a coach owned program.  All team decisions are based on the continued focus of Building the base through dedication, excellence, and tradition. We primarily swim outdoors at Northampton Pools, but also swim indoors at Klein Oak High School, and additional outdoor & indoor 50m pools during long course season.


  • Previous coaching experience required (ASCA level 2 or higher preferred).

  • Ability to work, train, and instruct multiple practice groups either 3:30-8:00 or 4:30-8:30 pm every day, and some mornings (as needed). Hours will change during summer schedule to mornings and evenings.

Responsibilities for age group coach position: The age group coach is responsible for coaching two separate groups of children ages 9-10 & 11-12.  Practice times during the school year are from 3:45 pm until 7:30 pm weekdays (Monday through Friday), and from 7:45am until 11:30am on Saturdays between the two groups. Practice times during the summer are from 7:45 am until 11:30am from Monday through Saturday. Participation at swim meets and other team activities is also required. We are looking for a coach that will teach the children a high level of swimming technique and instilling good work ethics, striving for success at the age group level while challenging the swimmers to improve. The coach must keep track of each group’s attendance, do their swim meet entries and be responsible for the day-to-day communication with the parents. The coach must report to the Head Coach and must be able to design the season plan and workouts based on the club’s philosophy.

Requirements for the position: The individual should be a high energy, positive person, displaying good communication skills, working well with swimmers, parents and other coaching staff.  The coach should also be familiar with using HY-Tek Team Manager, Meet Manager and Swim Manager.  ASCA certification level 3 is required and United States swimming level 2 preferred. The individual should have at least 3 years of coaching experience with USA Swimming.
This is a part time position. Salary is competitive (commensurate with qualifications and experience) and further opportunities exist for technique private lessons, swim clinics and camps. The position is available immediately, but will be filled by the most qualified and fitting applicant.

This is a combined position as an assistant senior coach within the YMCA of the Triangle Area (YOTA) Swim Team and an assistant coach with the newly formed William Peace University Men’s and Women’s swimming team.

YMCA of the Triangle Area (YOTA) Swim Team:

This is a part-time position assisting our top two senior level groups (Gold and Platinum) within the Raleigh site of our YOTA Swim Team. YOTA consistently produces elite athletes at the highest level of USA Swimming. During the past 5 years, we have had multiple Olympic Trials qualifiers, National Junior Team members, Youth Olympians, Junior and Senior National qualifiers, and a ton of YMCA national qualifiers, scorers, and champions. We are looking for someone to help expand on our tradition of top level senior swimming. We have tons of opportunities for growth and development for the right candidate. Our part-time hourly rate is very competitive. This position offers around 30 hours of work per week, mostly on the pool deck (with office hours available if desired).

William Peace University:

We are blessed to have an amazing partnership with a local premier Division 3 school in Raleigh, William Peace University. With a brand new program up and running, we are looking for someone that is interested to help us grow and succeed at the regional and national level. We have a young team and a bright future. This is a paid part-time salaried assistant position with William Peace University.

This combined position (with both YOTA and WPU) provides the right candidate with ample opportunities to coach elite level club and collegiate athletes. Hickory Willow Swim Association is a 165 athlete swim club that trains primarily out of A.A. Stagg High School is Palos Hills, IL. HWSA seeks an experienced coach that will serve as its Head Age Group Coach.  Candidates must have a least 3 years of experience coaching 14 and unders, preferably as a Head Age Group Coach but not necessary.  This coach should have the passion and desire for the sport, have the ability to inspire their athletes so they can strive to reach their goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing season plan for group
  • Writing daily workouts
  • Run dryland for group
  • Arrive to all practices and meets at least 15 minutes before the start of each
  • Attend all meets
  • Maintain appropriate attendance all year in all groups
  • Weekly or bi-weekly communication with parents via email newsletter
  • Return all parent/athlete emails or phone calls in a timely manner
  • Report to Head Coach of HWSA
  • Working knowledge of Team Unify and Hy-Tek systems
  • Maintain athlete attendance records
  • Current certifications including all required USA Swimming coach certs
  • Must pass a background check from USA Swimming before officially being hired

Salary: Competitive, based on experience.

Other Compensation: reimbursement of all certification expenses, training, per diem at travel meets, vacation and sick days.

Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team (FAST) seeks a Full-Time Assistant Coach for the competitive swim team. The position consists of 25-30 hours per week on deck with swimmers of all ages, including Masters and post-graduates. Additional time will be dedicated to meet entries, communication with team families, organization of team events, and meet management.

FAST is a non-profit club with approximately 225 athletes. Two pool sites in North Orange County are utilized for team practices. We pursue excellence in every arena in which we compete, from novice swimmers to Olympians. In 2017 FAST earned Silver Medal Club recognition and placed two 18 & Under athletes on the U.S. National Team for Open Water.

Ideal applicant has:

  • Experience with swimmers of all ages
  • Interest in teaching at every level
  • Willingness to learn, experiment, and evolve
  • Personal experience in competitive swimming
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Team Unify and Hytek platforms


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in any field
  • USA Swimming coach certifications and background check clearance
  • Available to coach early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to assist at both practice sites (car required)
  • Attend meets as assigned
  • Assist with set up and clean up of hosted meets

Pay is commensurate with experience.

Tidal Wave Swim Foundation INC. is an age group USA swim team with approximately 275 swimmers for the fall of 2017. We operate out of two facilities, one in Powder Springs Ga. and another in Acworth Ga.

We currently have 2 full time assistant coaching positions open. Applicants must be flexible in ability and willingness to coach a variety of developmental levels.

Salary is competitive with other programs in the Metro Atlanta area and will be determined by the experience and expertise of the applicants. Employment will begin in September with orientation prior.


Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

-Report to Head Coach and/ or site Lead Coach

-Primary coaching responsibilities of age group training groups (Design and oversee training programs)

-Communicate effectively with other coaches, swimmers and parents

-Attend all required meets

-Meet entries and other administrative responsibilities

-Facility maintenance

-Marketing of the team and recruitment of new athletes
