Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Aquatics, the Association Director of Competitive Aquatics will oversee the competitive and non-competitive aquatic programs at all YMCA of South Florida locations. This position will be instrumental in standardizing and growing our competitive footprint in South Florida. The Association Director of Competitive Aquatics creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of South Florida policies and procedures. This position will drive the vision and implementation of the YMCA of South Florida swim clinics, swim leagues, swim teams, masters swim team and diving as directed by the Associate Vice President of Aquatics.

This position will drive the vision and implementation of the YMCA of South Florida swim clinics, swim leagues, swim teams, masters swim team and diving as directed by the Associate Vice President of Aquatics

Essential Functions:

Operational Effectiveness

Assist YMCA of South Florida leadership team with managing the Swim Team program including preparation and implementation of progression curriculum, seasonal plans and practice plans focused on development of competitive skills as well as teamwork, work ethic, goal orientation, positive attitude and core values.
Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, develop, schedule and direct coaching staff and volunteers for the YMCA Aquatic Centers as needed, and assist in the same duties for all other sites under the YMCA of South Florida footprint.
Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Accurately seek out, summarize, communicate and enter all swim meet information for the entire YMCA South Florida program, and communicate final details to coaches in a timely, professional manner.
Assist in development of program budget and monitor it to meet fiscal objectives.
Perform team admin duties as assigned, including but not limited to, team registration, team communication, team store and website maintenance.
Take lead event management roles in all hosted swim meets at the YMCA Aquatic Centers, as well as additional duties assigned for other hosted events at the YMCA Aquatic Centers as needed.
Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of the Family Center aquatic programs, including Safety Around Water, lap swimming, swim lessons, swim team, other aquatic teams and group exercise classes.
Build effective, authentic relationships with community partners, parents, and program participants and neighboring swim teams and YMCA’s.
Assist in creating, targeting and distributing program marketing information.
Maintain knowledge of industry trends.
Know, understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of South Florida policies and procedures.
Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.
Assist in the identification of active volunteers for the Family Center’s Annual Scholarship Campaign.
Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
All other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous 10+ years swim coaching experience required with at least 5+ years in a head or leadership capacity. YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
Previous customer service experience preferred.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent follow through actions regarding communication.
Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.

Position Profile:

Avid swimmer, passionate about the sport of swimming, dedicated to the cause of water safety and drowning prevention.
High-energy personality, outgoing, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
Natural leader with a competitive drive, emotionally mature, able to initiate and conduct difficult conversations with individuals at all levels.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Innate desire to provide excellent customer service to participants, which will result in an exceptional aquatic experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

YMCA Lifeguard Certified or Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, Certified Pool Operator (CPO or AFO) and Swim Instructor Certified, preferred.
First Aid/CPR/AED, CPRO, and oxygen administration certified.
YMCA Team Leader certification preferred but not required

As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening and drug test.
