Crawfordsville, Indiana, native Emily Humphrey is heading upstate to continue her swimming career, committing to Valparaiso to compete beginning this fall.
Humphrey, who competes for Crawfordsville High School and the Sugar Creek Swim Club, told her local newspaper, The Journal Review, that “It means a lot to be able to go on to college and be able to do something I love at the collegiate level.”
Humphrey was the sectional champion in the 200 IM and 100 breast and was part of two title-winning freestyle relays as a senior. She went on to finish 30th in the 100 breast (1:07.96) and 32nd in the 100 fly (1:01.84) at the Indiana Girls High School State Championships in February. Humphrey also was a part of Crawfordsville’s 31st place 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams.
In 2018, Humphrey was 30th in the 100 breast (1:11.46) at the IHSAA State meet and also swam on the 200 free relay.
In 2017, she was 30th in the 100 breast (1:10.63) at the IHSAA State meet. She also swam on Crawfordsville’s 30th place 200 free relay.
In 2016, Humphrey swam the third leg of Crawfordsville’s 31st place 200 free relay at the IHSAA state meet.

Humphrey’s top time in the 100 breast would have ranked first on the Valparaiso team in 2018-19 ahead of junior Emily Baumgartner (1:09.91), freshman Chiara Robinson (1:10.57) and Casey Main (1:12.68). Her 200 breast career best also would have led the Crusaders in 2018-19, ahead of Baumgartner’s 2:31.57.
