Wesley Hyde of the Central Florida Marlins will start competing with the University of Florida Gators this fall in their class of 2024.
I have always thought that if I get the chance to swim at Florida I would. Their academics and athletics are at a high level. I connected well with the team and am confident that the coaching and support staff there will help me reach my goals and contribute to the team.

Hyde is the reigning FHSAA 4A State champion in the 500 free, clocking a 4:28.90 in the final to win the title representing West Port High School. He also finished seventh in the 200 IM at that meet.
Florida’s best-in-the-nation distance group is led by rising junior Robert Finke, the fastest SCY miler in history, and Kieran Smith, the fastest 500y freestyler in history. Finke and Smith hit times of 14:12.08 and 4:06.32, respectively, to win 2020 SEC titles. In the 500, Finke was 4:10 last season, and rising sophomore Brennan Gravley clocked a 14:47.41 in the mile at SECs.
Hyde won’t be the only incoming distance specialist to bulk up the D-group; Jack Vandeusen is 4:23/15:08, Brendan Peacock is 4:27/15:19 and Caleb Kravitz is at 4:26/15:26.
Hyde joins Adam Chaney, Brendan Peacock, Caleb Kravitz, Jace Crawford, Mitchell Meyer, Trevor McGovern, Tyson Upton, Nick Eunice, Amro Al-Wir, John Van Deusen, and William Jones in their class of 2024 along with transfers Erik Harper (Hawaii) and Anton Svirskyi (St. Peter’s).
