Berkoff on Olympic Berth: “3 years ago not making it… best thing that could have happened”

2024 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS

By finishing 2nd in the 100 back tonight, Katharine Berkoff most likely qualified for her first Olympic Games. 3 years ago at the 2021 Olympic Trials, Berkoff finished in 4th place. While that was a hard pill to swallow at the time, Berkoff admits it was the best thing that could have happened to her at the time, for it gave her motivation for the following 3 years.

So happy for her. I also understand why she dropped the 100 free and the results speak for themselves. I just thought she might do something special with that too and wanted a chance to see it.

I also love the “when you’re second you don’t want to stay second forever.” Keep that fire burning and keep pushing!

In the excitement of the world record I think we lost track of how exciting it is to have a new member of the sub-58 club. And she did it twice!
