Westchester Aquatic Club Graduates Largest Class With 12 Seniors

Westchester Aquatic Club, was founded in the spring of 2010, by coach Carle Fierro.  Having success coaching age group and high school swimming since 1984, Carle’s founding principle was that swimmers could swim fast, by being taught excellent technique, educating them about the connection of training well to assist them in reaching individual and team goals, and the importance of creating and being part of a positive team culture.  We remain fully committed to offer the opportunity for all swimmers, regardless of age or ability, to reach their highest personal potential as both a person and athlete. We continually encourage our swimmers to develop the character and self-discipline necessary to succeed not only in swimming but also in life away from the pool.   

The Wolverines are super proud to celebrate the successes of Kate Douglass and Claire Weinstein at World Trials this past week and are grateful for the opportunity to have trained them during their age group development. 

In addition, the Wolverines would also like to celebrate and announce our largest graduation class since the inception of the team.   Congratulations to our 12 Graduating Seniors who will continue their athletic and academic careers at the following schools:

Kelly Byrne – Horace Greeley High School, Chappaqua, NY  – Bucknell University.  Kelly is a founding member of the team, being on the Wolverines since its inception in 2010. She is friendly, likable, and kind-hearted.  Kelly’s pleasant and agreeable disposition can brighten up the gloomiest of practices with her brilliant smile and constant enthusiasm.   She is genuine, authentic, sincere, and honest, she is true to herself and others, without pretense or deceit.  Kelly has the remarkable ability to understand and connect with others on an emotional level, displaying empathy and understanding. Kelly is an All-American Academic, All-American, All-State, and All-League swimmer.  Academically, Kelly received the Cum Laude GPA Award and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholar.  Additionally, she is an avid environmentalist, Kelly created and is the Executive of the Beach and Ocean Protection Club.

Daniella Condon – New Rochelle High School – Fairfield University

Daniella has been a Wolverine for 9 years, initially as a swimmer and the past 2 years as a coach.  During her tenure as a Wolverine, she has been loyal, reliable, and steadfast in her commitments, demonstrating unwavering devotion, an enthusiastic coach, she displays, passion, enthusiasm and positivity to all the swimmers she works with.  She has received an Academic Scholarship to Fairfield University, in addition to National Honors Society Member, Business and Marketing Honors Society, Team Captain.

Elijah DeCasseres – Iona Preparatory School – Iona University

Elijah has been on the Wolverines for the past 6 years.  Elijah is extremely bright and courteous.  He is a devoted team member,  is always trustworthy, approachable and open-minded.   Of particular value to our team is that Elijah is quick-witted, intelligent and intuitive, he is always there to support his team-mates and coaches in and out of the pool.  In addition, he is sincere, genuine, displaying a heartfelt and earnest commitment in all he does.

Alex Gorzula – Lakeland High School – SUNY New Paltz

Alex is agreeable and has a friendly demeanor.  One of his strengths is that he is adaptable, adjusting to new circumstances with his versatility and broadmindedness.  In the two years he has been on the team, he has demonstrated his conscientiousness in the pool.   Alex demonstrates diligence, he is thorough, and attentive to detail, taking great care in performing his workouts with a strong sense of responsibility in doing his very best. Athletically, Alex has been the Boys Varsity Team Captain for 2 years, is a Scholar-Athlete and a member of the National Honor Society and made the Honor Roll 4 Years in a row.  

Ben Korzenik – Fordham Prep – Middlebury College

Ben joined the Wolverines a few months ago and he is a pleasure to have on the team.  I was impressed with his ability of adjusting and adapting to a new team. Ben is fearless and courageous when training, his strength is to confront challenges and overcome challenges and goals in practice.  Ben was awarded the Father Joseph Barton Most Distinctive Swimmer Award at Fordham Prep.  He has received the President’s for Educational Excellence and the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award.

Harison Lambert – Scarsdale High School – SUNY Binghamton University

Harrison joined the team last summer and what a pleasure he has been to coach !.  Over the past year, he has shown deep loyalty, dedication, and commitment to the Wolverines.  He has impressed me with his tactfulness and skills in handling sensitive situations, possessing diplomacy and the ability to navigate any difficult situation with ease.  In addition, he is an extremely talented swimmer, and displays a great single-mindedness of purpose in getting his workouts done, while motivating his team-mates to do their very best as well.  Harrison is an extremely helpful team member, willing and ready to assist others, providing aid, support, or guidance to those in need on the team.  High Academic Honor Society, 2 Scarsdale School Records and Future Qualifier in 5 events !

Aidan Lee – Scarsdale High School – William College

Aidan is one of the founding swimmers of the Wolverines, becoming a Wolverine in the spring of 2010.  I have coached all four of his siblings.  He is cooperative, pleasant, and easy to work with, always having a positive and accommodating attitude.  Aidan is attentive to everything going on around him, always paying close attention, being observant and considerate, while showing care and thoughtfulness towards his work in the pool, his team-mates and coaches.  He is intelligent, chivalrous and driven in all he does.  We rely on him numerous times to demonstrate drills and strokes in the pool.   During his tenure with the Wolverines Aidan is always masterful in the pool and we will miss his skillfulness, proficient work ethic and trustworthiness. Aidan is a Scholastic All-American, Winters Junior National Qualifier, Scarsdale Team Captain senior year and MVP for the Junior & Senior years, Member of the Signifier Honor Society.

Rory Sheridan – The Ursuline School – Providence College

Rory has been a Wolverine for 6 years.  Her personality is filled with brilliance and luminosity. Rory is genuine, honest, and heartfelt in her thoughts, feelings, and intentions.  She is an exceptional swimmer,  is meticulous with her work, and a loyal friend and team member.  What we admire most about Rory is her idealistic approach in the pool, believing in the “Work Works” mantra while striving to achieve her goals though hard work and creating a positive culture for the team. Rory is  All-Section, All-League, Futures & Sectional Qualifier, 2x Team MVP, NY State and Team Captain.  National Honor Society Member.  Community Service: Social Action Club, Pier Mediator, Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Club.

Gabe Rzeźwicki – Putnam Valley High School – University of Tampa

Gabe reached out to me 2 years ago, and the team has not been the same since.  His exuberant personality radiates remarkable levels of enthusiasm and positive energy.  What we find incredible about Gabe is how honest he is in expressing his thoughts and opinions, he is straightforward and sincere in his communication and commitment to the team.  Gabe is always motivating and uplifting his team-mates and is capable of inspiring others with his positive energy and this has enhanced the culture of the team at practices and meets.   Gabe is passionate about always doing his best not only for himself, but for the team as well.  Gabe is an All-American Consideration swimmer, he hold 5 School records, and was NY State runner up in the 50 free.  He a Junior National Qualifier and has 5 Future cuts.  He is ranked #8 in his graduating class.

Mathis Vigneau – French & American School of New York – Cornell University, Engineering

Mathis only began swimming competitively in Freshman year of High School.  He joined the Wolverines his Junior year and immediately we recognized how diligent, thorough, and attentive to detail he was during practices, taking great care in performing his tasks in the pool with a strong sense of responsibility.  Mathis graduated with Honors at the French & American School, obtaining his French Baccalaureate and American Diploma.  He has lived in 6 different counties moving to the US in the middle of his 10th grade.  Despite this challenge, Mathis has maintained high grades and speaks English, French, Spanish and Dutch.   He has volunteered in Argentina working in a soup kitchen for a local disadvantaged community in Cordoba.  An environmentalist, Mathis volunteers to clean up the public parks in Westchester County.

Cindy Wang – Pelham Memorial High School – Swarthmore College

Cindy has been a Wolverine for the past 7 years.  What we admire about Cindy is her altruistic personality.  She is selflessly concerned for the well-being of others, showing a genuine desire to help and support her team-mates without expecting anything in return.  Cindy is friendly, approachable, and easy to get along with. She is a champion in and out of the pool, as she advocates and supports her team-mates and coaches, and excels at contributing to a positive team culture.  In addition, she is compassionate, showing deep empathy and understanding towards the suffering or hardships of others, demonstrating kindness, compassion and supports her team-mates in all aspects.  Cindy is a member of the National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, NY State Qualifier, Future Qualifier.

Andy Wang – Pelham Memorial High School – New York University

Andy has been a Wolverine for the past 7 years.  He is mindful and modest, present and conscious of the present moment, paying attention and being aware of all around him in a deliberate and non-judgmental way.  Andy is loyal, faithful and devoted, showing steadfast allegiance and commitment to his team-mates and the Wolverines.  Andy is someone who always puts in a lot of effort and dedication into his practices. Andy holds school records in the 100 back, 100 breast & 200 IM.  Hi has also achieved High Honor Roll all 4 years of high school.

We wish our Seniors the best of luck in their collegiate careers and there is no doubt in our minds, that they continue to be remarkable and extraordinary in college, as they have done every day while being a Wolverine!
