5x Minnesota Class A Champion Jack Herczeg Verbally Commits to Ohio State

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jack Herczeg, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Winona, Minnesota, has announced his intention to swim for The Ohio State University in the class of 2024.

“Extremely thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at The Ohio State University! Thank you to my parents, teammates, and coaches for everything you have done! As soon as I arrived on campus and met the OSU team and coaching staff, I instantly knew it was the perfect place for me. I can’t wait to join The Ohio State Swim and Dive team! Go Bucks!”

Herczeg is a senior at Winona Senior High School. Although he didn’t begin competitive swimming until the fall of 8th grade, he made the Minnesota high school state meet as a freshman in the 50/100 free and was state champion in the 100 free (46.58) as a sophomore. Also at the 2018 MSHSL Boys Class A Swim & Dive Championships he finished 3rd in the 50 free (21.40) and contributed to a pair of state-champion relays: the 200 free (21.76 leadoff) and the 400 free (45.86 anchor). At the 2019 MSHSL Boys Class A State Meet he won the 50 free (21.02) and 100 free (45.38) individually and swam on the runner-up 200 free relay (20.60 leg) and runner-up 400 free relay (45.32 anchor).

Herczeg swims with Winona Swim Club year-round. He had a slew of best times in long course season, including 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, and 100 fly and he finished 3rd in the 100m free and 7th in the 200m free at the 2019 Minnesota Senior Long Course Championships. His top SCY times are:

  • 50 free – 21.02
  • 100 free – 45.38
  • 200 free – 1:47.60
  • 100 fly – 56.16

He will join the Buckeyes in the fall of 2020 with Charlie Clark, Ian Van Gorp, Jean-Pierre Khouzam, Justin Fleagle, Mario McDonald, Owen Conley, and Pete Krusinski.
