Texas men and women swept the SEC championships in their first year in the league. Here are the numbers. All of the numbers. Current photo via Texas Longhorns
It was a sophomore’s world at SECs. The top scoring class in both the men’s and women’s meets were Texas sophomores. The Texas men’s sophomores put up 414 individual points and the women’s sophomores scored 445. Next best for the women were the Florida sophomores with 443. Second best for the men was the Florida juniors with 306.5. (Tennessee did not include class years on their roster so they are excluded from this analysis)
In the men’s meet, the most points any team scored in an event was Texas’ 129 in the 200 IM followed by Texas’ 124 in the 500 free.
In the women’s meet, the most points any team scored in an event was Florida’s 134 in the 400 IM followed by Florida’s 122 in the 200 back and Texas’ 118 on 1 meter.
The top individual scorer in the men’s meet was Texas sophomore Rex Maurer with 91 individual points. Next best was Florida junior Josh Liendo with 90.
The women saw two triple winners where both Tennessee sophomore Camille Spink and Texas 5th year Emma Sticklen finished with a perfect 96 points.
Tennessee did not include class year’s on their roster in the live result so their data is incomplete

Individual Breakdown Women
Power are Swimulator power points. Those are a way to quantify time quality independent of what event the time is from. Includes only final times and final dive scores.
From the lips of Eddie Reese to the mind of Bob Bowman, the UT men simply show overpowering strength. Perhaps most encouraging is the fact that so many of their points are coming from Frosh/Soph swimmers, which, of course, portents the dynastic continuation for quite some time. NB: NCAA’s will be the acid test, but the preliminary titrations in SwimSwam are positive.

The male freshman at this meet certainly had a hard time making A finals, this sec was incredibly fast and maybe they need time to adjust to this level of swimming. Drew Hitchcock made 2 in the 4IM and 2fly where he placed 6 and 8, with the 2IM he scored an impressive 62. The two Texas boys Peck and Lucas scoring 53 and 52 also very impressive both only making 1 A final. However Painter making 3 A finals was very impressive in arguably the hardest events 50, 100 and 200 free to score a big 71, furthermore with his relay contributions he had a fantastic meet. I’m sure I have missed other freshman, I wonder which?

Checking on grid shown in Individual Scoring by Year for Men, where are TX swimmers Carrozza and Sampson included? Are they 5Y swimmers? Listed as 0 pts in that group, but they did score some solid points.
However, Landreneau, Sikes, Furse, and Jones all look really promising, and we have Kennedi Dobson coming in in the fall, so hopefully they can make up the lost points.

Georgia men. Points by class doesn’t add up! Not even close unless I am missing something
No. Without diving (someone double check my math), Texas women win by 41, Texas men win by 75.
But if you exclude diving, Texas gets more roster spots for swimmers, and they left scoring swimmers at home. Excluding diving would also impact how teams invest resources (recruiting effort, scholarship dollars, NIL) – nothing happens in a bubble.
Texas men used 4 roster spots on diving, Florida men only 3. Texas women used 10 roster spots on diving, Florida women only 3.
So if the question is “would 19 Florida men have outscored 18 Texas men,” the answer is still no. If the question is “would 19 Florida women have outscored 12 Texas women,” the answer is also no. But I’m… Read more »
The Texas women won comfortably because of diving. I’ve never heard of taking 10 divers to a meet–good grief, crazy, but it certainly worked. Texas got a whopping 326 points from diving compared to a woeful 25 diving points for Tennessee, which I think took only 3 divers who did not perform well. Diving has been a big weakness for the Tennessee women in recent years–and they had a deficit to texas of 301 points on diving alone–and lost the overall point total by 271. So a 30-point advantage in swimming events for the Vols didn’t begin to make up the diving deficit, as Texas was also very strong in swimming.
Florida women scored 96 points from diving, and… Read more »
Which shows that without diving Tenn would win by 37. However looking at last 3 swimmers for each Texas averaged 20 each the last 3 for Tenn averaged 1 and last 3 for Florida averaged zero.
Texas left scorers at home to bring the divers.

I love the breakdown. Raw numbers tell incredible stories for every team. What a thrilling meet for everyone!! I enjoyed every second.

It would also take an additional 5 minutes to look up the classes for Tennessee. That info is readily available.

The class stuff is incorrect for a bunch of schools.
Unfortunately, while I would love for Coetzee, Stege, McCarty, and McCulloh to all be juniors, they’re all seniors. Big losses for the ladies.

They messed up and put everyone in a year behind. JRs should be SRs. It should work out when you do that.
Great data – one question: and congrats to UT for the S&D championship, but if you exclude diving would the standings at the top been different?

Is this a critique of Texas diving or a critique of Tennessee diving? Hard to tell…
Still a lot, but Texas women only brought 6 divers. There’s a glitch in the way it’s listed on Swimswam’s breakdown and 4 are listed twice
