Cal outscored the psych sheet for the 4th day in a row but the night belonged to Arizona State, who took home their first NCAA championship. Current photo via Jack Spitser/Spitser Photography
Arizona met all expectations on Saturday, scoring .05 better than seeded to finish the final day of the meet with 180.5 points. The Sun Devils finished with 523.5 points, winning by 79 points over runner-up Cal (444.5).
Below are the results for Day 4 (scroll down for full meet results).
Cal continued to outpace the psych sheet, this time by 48 points. UVA (+35.5) and NC State (+25) outperformed as well.
Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, USC, and Ohio State were off their seedings.
Florida, however, did just enough to secure third place in the team standings. The Gators had a setback on Day with their DQd 400 medley relay but in the end, it didn’t affect their team finish.
Still surprised USC had only 31 points. 15 from diving. One swimmer scored 16 in 2 events the final day. No relay points. Arizona 19 points with 13 diving points and 6 points from relays.

There is combined where men’s and women’s team are combined and coached by same staff…
And then there is combined when men and women have different coaches and staff. Recruit separately.
I would say they should be treat differently?

iu diving really is special–like tyler, henninger, and everyone else are just amazing
IU has a long diving tradition going back to Hobie Billingsley in the 60’s all the way through to today. Swim fans on this site may not like it, but IU cares a lot about diving and invests a lot into the program.
Yes IU’s divers probably beat every other team not in top 10ish?!? All by themselves! No relays needed! Congrats!

Slightly off on the calculations Florida could not score 36 points in the 400 Free relay.

I’d be interested to see the breakdown in scoring by class (i.e., freshman through 5th years) at least for the top 5-10 teams). My guess is that, excluding the incoming freshman and transfers) the Cal cupboard might be looking relatively bare compared to others in the top tier – I hope not, but that’s my impression.
Anne Lepesant is the mother of four daughters, all of whom swam in college. With an undergraduate degree from Princeton (where she was an all-Ivy tennis player) and an MBA from INSEAD, she worked for many years in the financial industry, both in France and the U.S. Anne is currently …

SwimSwam usually do this sort of breakdown once the NCAAs have concluded.
Yep, Andrew will run his “Box Scores” this week. He’s traveling to Athens (Greece) but should get to it soon.
Congratulations to Stanford for making it to the top 8, with 31 individual swimming points, pure miracle
Where’s the Todd Desorbo interviews for the men’s meet?
Wow, OSU swimming with a rough meet. Only 8 points from relays. Lyle Yost and co saving them.
We know it was going to happen before the meet with them having no backstrokers on the team, and Gaziev missing hurting their freestyle depth.
