2022 Short Course World Championships: Shake Up At Top Of Medal Table

2022 FINA SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

While the host nation of Australia enjoyed sitting atop the overall medal table through two days of competition at these Short Course World Championships, their reign came to an end on day three.

Capturing 5 gold medals on the night, the United States now wears the overall medal table crown, carrying a total of 17 medals, including 9 golds, halfway through the competition.

Tonight’s winners for the stars n’ stripes included Dakota Luther in the women’s 200m fly, Kieran Smith in the men’s 400m free, Nic Fink in the men’s 100m breast, Lilly King in the women’s 100m breast along with the women’s 4x50m freestyle relay.

Add in Hali Flickinger‘s silver in the 200m fly and the United States now leads the pack, with Australia next in line with 15 medals, including 8 gold.

Italy maintained its position as the 3rd placed nation, however, Chad Le Clos‘ 200m fly gold helped edge South Africa up the standings to now rank #4 with Canada also staying within the top 5 performing nations in Melbourne.

Now there’s no need for Americans to complain that the table isn’t sorted by total medals.

Give it a rest. Not a single country sent their full A team. Australia is missing multiple swimmers who broke individual world records earlier this year.

Not even close to those missing from USA team. AUS has their best male and female swimmer, USA doesn’t and still winning
