1:00.6 Breaststroker Kylie Powers Verbals to Texas A&M

Kylie Powers of the Swim Houston Aquatics Center has pledged her verbal commitment to Texas A&M for next fall.

TOP TIMES

  • 50y breast – 28.86
  • 100y breast – 1:00.65
  • 200y breast – 2:12.58

At the 2017 NCSA Spring Championships, Powers sped her way to a 2nd place finish in the 100 breast, a 4th place finish in the 200 breast, and an 8th place finish in the 50 breast.

Powers joins a Texas A&M program with a track record for breaststroke success, most recently seen by sprinter Jorie Caneta and 200 breast specialists Bethany Galat and Sydney Pickrem. Galat, in particular, powered her way to silver in the 200 breast at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest. For some context: last year at SECs in the 200 breast, A&M finished 1-2-3-5-6.

Powers is a significant addition to the team. She would’ve made the SEC A final in the 100 breast and the B final in the 200 breast, with her personal bests right now. She’s also right on the cusp of qualifying for NCAAs– last year, a 1:00.33 was the last time invited.
