The 2022 ACC Championships got underway on Tuesday night, featuring just 2 swimming events: the women’s and men’s 800 freestyle relays.
In the women’s event, Virginia got off to a strong start with a new meet record of 6:53.37 to take out their own mark of 6:54.31 from last year. Alex Walsh played a big part in Virginia’s squad with a major 1:41.63 split to anchor the team.
On the men’s side, NC State powered its way to the top of the podium and also knocked down the reigning meet record. NC State swam a 6:08.35 for the gold, which was more than a second faster than their own SEC Championships of 6:09.82 from back in 2017.
