Varjasi, Mansson & Atkinson Earn ACC Swimmer of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State earned a share of every Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week award this week as Peter Varjasi was named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week and Darwin Nolasco earned ACC Men’s Diver of the Week. On the women’s side, Florida State’s Julia Mansson and Virginia Tech’s Emma Atkinson were named ACC Women’s Co-Swimmers of the Week, and FSU’s Samantha Vear and Virginia Tech’s Izzi Mroz earned ACC Women’s Co-Divers of the Week.

ACC MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Peter Varjasi, Florida State, Sr., Erlangen, Germany

Varjasi set three pool records in Florida State’s meet against Georgia Tech. After setting a new personal record in the 100 free last week, he lowered his own record, swimming a first-place time of 42.83. That time is the seventh fastest in the nation. He also swam in the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay, adding two more first place finishes to his tally.

ACC WOMEN’S CO-SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK

Julia Mansson, Florida State, Sr., Örebro, Sweden

Mansson secured three wins for the Seminoles in the pool in the 200 medley relay, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke. The senior also set a pool record time in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:09.68, just off the FSU record (2:08.57). Both individual swims earned NCAA B zone times.

Emma Atkinson, Virginia Tech, Jr., Brookhaven, Pennsylvania

Atkinson holds the third-fastest time in the nation following her first-place 200 breaststroke performance in 1:54.67 in Virginia Tech’s meet against Ohio State. She also swam a 53.89 in the 100 backstroke, adding another first-place finish. Both of those swims earned NCAA B zone times. The Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, native led off the 100 back relay and her split of 53.83 led the Hokies to a second-place finish.

ACC MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK

Darwin Nolasco, Florida State, Jr., Monterrey, Mexico

Nolasco earned a first-place finish in the 1-meter event in Florida State’s meet against Georgia Tech with a 315.83. He placed second in the 3-meter, coming in behind his teammate, Jesco Helling. The Noles went 1-2 in both events. Nolasco earned NCAA zone scores in both events.

ACC WOMEN’S CO-DIVERS OF THE WEEK

Samantha Vear, Florida State, Jr., Conroe, Texas

Vear swept her events in the Seminoles’ victory over the Yellow Jackets. Her 1-meter score of 278.48 topped the leaderboard, winning by 18 points. The Conroe, Texas, native was the lone diver to score above 300 points in the meet with her 3-meter score of 329.40. Both dives earned NCAA zone scores.

Izzi Mroz, Virginia Tech, Jr., Denver, Colorado

Mroz swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives for the Hokies, earning NCAA zone scores in both events. The Denver, Colorado, native scored a 318.00 in the 1-meter and was just shy of 300 points in the 3-meter at 299.62.
