BALTIMORE – UMBC seniors led the way on Senior Day as the Retrievers cruised to victory over Salisbury University and Frostburg State.
On the women’s side, senior Nyah Stahl captured both the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and classmate Makaela Hill added a victory in the 100 freestyle.
Senior Daniel Nicusan cruised to victory in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke to pace the men. Classmate Bode Neale duplicated Hill’s feat and won the 100 freestyle.
The women defeated Salisbury, 148-57 and Frostburg State, 162-43, while the men triumphed over the Seagulls, 149-56 and the Bobcats, 155-50.
“This was a great way to start the second half of the season and our charge towards America East,” said Head Coach Matt Donovan. “The coaches are all very happy with how we performed today and are excited for another great week of practice leading into our final regular season meet.”
The teams opened and closed the meet by winning the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays.
Notes:
- Freshman Nick Bracall won a pair of events for the first time in his career, posting victories in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles.
- Junior JJ Chapman edged the competition and won the 200 individual medley.

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Salisbury University women’s swimming team heads home victorious over Frostburg State while they could not overcome UMBC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sea Gulls found themselves on the podium frequently Saturday afternoon. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Olivia Totaro took home third place with a time of 11:01.73.
- Salisbury earned another third-place finish in the 200-yard IM as Bryn Krasauskis finished with a 2:18.87.
- Lily Griffin secured a win in the 100-yard butterfly as she finished just under a second ahead of the swimmer behind her.
- The 100-yard backstroke saw the Sea Gulls pick up a second-place finish as Emma Schlutt took the podium in between two UMBC swimmers.
- Samantha Watson earned a third-place finish for Salisbury in the 100-yard breaststroke as she was just shy of second place, finishing with a time of 1:10.36.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- While UMBC took the top two spots in the opening 200-yard medley relay, Salisbury finished in the next two spots above Frostburg State. The third-place finishing relay team for the Sea Gulls consisted of Lucas Mitchell, Gabriele Miksa, Owen Brewer, and Michael DeSimone.
- Matt Merke earned an impressive win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 9:51.85.
- The 50-yard freestyle witnessed an exciting finish as DeSimone finished eight-hundredths of a second behind first place.
- Christopher Knorr picked up a notable second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, sharing the podium with UMBC.
- In the 100-yard breaststroke it was once again a Salisbury swimmer who found himself situated between two UMBC swimmers. Brady Wolf earned a second-place finish, finishing the event with a time of 1:00.34.
- The Sea Gulls closed out the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of DeSimone, Brewer, Kyle Skelly, and Mark Dattilio.

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Frostburg State Women’s Swimming team fell in their tri-meet on Saturday afternoon, losing to UMBC 162-43 and Salisbury 145-60.
The team of sophomore Gabriela Betancourt, senior Maree Dieterich, junior Kendall Hooper, and freshman Gabriella Douglas knotted the highest finish in the day for Frostburg, posting a 1:54.50 time in the 200-yard medley relay for a second place finish.
Hooper finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.95, while Douglas (26.02) and senior Liz Perry (26.07) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Three other top-five finishes on the day for the Bobcats were junior Lydia Nebiolo (11:13.44) in the 100-yard freestyle, freshman Rachel Rickabaugh (2:03.48) in the 200-yard freestyle, and junior Natasha Paciello (1:12.59) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
To finish out the meet, the team of junior Amaya Burke, freshman Jayme Meadows, Dieterich, and Perry finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:45.72 time, while coming in right behind them in fifth place was the team of Rickabaugh, junior Pinky Council, Betancourt, and Paciello with a 1:48.33 time.
With the losses, FSU moves to 7-4 on the season as they will face Mary Washington in their regular season finale on Saturday, January 27 at 1 PM in Fredericksburg, VA. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Frostburg State Men’s Swimming team lost to UMBC and Salisbury on the road Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 155-50 and 137-68, respectively.
Frostburg knotted two second place finishes on the day, with junior Nate Canapp in the 1,000-yard freestyle at a time of 10:01.43, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar, freshman Tory Reynolds, and seniors Jackson Miller and Noah Loper clocked a time of 1:28.81.
Sedar earned a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a 22.19 time, while Loper (1:49.70) and freshman Abe Bias (1:50,70) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
Canapp also finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.72, while Sedar took fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a 53.41 time, and Loper came fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 49:30 time. Freshman Dylan King crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 2:03.61 in the 200-yard IM.
With the losses, FSU goes to 5-5 on the year as they will travel to Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday, January 27 to face Mary Washington for their last regular season meet of the year beginning at 1 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
