STOCKTON, Calif. – In the final dual meet of the season, the Aggies arrive to curtain call fortified by one more win under their belt before the Big West Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Aggies stormed the Pacific pool, coming out triumphant with a 150-110 victory.

“Our group did a nice job closing out a tough week” praises head coach Matt Macedo. Following last weekend’s senior day as well, “It was nice to send our senior class out with a win in their last dual meet of their career.”

The team has been working overtime these past two weekends; squaring off for two double-meet weekends in a row. “With four meets in the last eight days, I am proud of how the team raced to finish out the dual meet season. We had some lifetime bests today and I know the Aggies are looking forward to getting some rest before our focus meetings in February,” says Macedo.

Sophomore Elsie Luisetti tried her hand in the 1,000 yard swim and posted second with an impressive 10:34.42 in the event.

Valenta, Hardin, and Olivia Andersen took first through third in the 200 freestyle, all within a few seconds of one another and keeping their times under two minutes.

Three Ags also dominated the 200 yard butterfly, taking control with Ellie Heit at the helm, Summer Mitchell and Maddy Ching in tow for an impressive top-three sweep.

The team took first through fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke, Aileen Zheng with the win coming in at an impressive 2:22.08 in the race. Seniors Haley Hoefer and Sam Rhodes followed Zheng, and Kayla Gregory rounded out fourth.

Finally, the Ags had a hat trick of wins in the 200 free relay, also taking the top three spots in the final event of the day. In the end, the Ags had 27 total top-three finishes versus the Pacific Tigers.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific swimming program put together a spirited effort with strong individual performances but ultimately fell short to UC Davis Saturday afternoon at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.

The Tigers’ women’s squad (5-4) notched eight first-place victories in the 150-110 defeat to the Aggies. Senior Jordyn Gonzales and senior Kelly Kermoian carried the torch for Pacific throughout the meet as standout swimmers.

“UC Davis is a great team, so we knew it was going to be a hard competition for us, but I thought we raced well today,” head coach Katelyne Herrington said. “We had a couple of girls who suited up and got some opportunities to be in some last races that maybe weren’t going to swim at conferences. Kelly had some outstanding swims in what was a big day for her. She’s definitely been really strong over the past couple weeks.”

Kermoian finished first in the women’s 100 yard backstroke (56.74) and 500 freestyle (5:01.70), giving her team nine points each during those heats. Kermoian also collected a top three finish in women’s 200 yard IM with a time of 2:07.80.

Gonzales also played a pivotal role for Pacific during the afternoon, landing the top spot in the women’s 200 yard backstroke (2:02.83) and 100 yard butterfly (56.05). Gonzales set personal bests in both of those competitions.

In the longest event of the day, freshman Christina Agiomamitou put together a strong performance in the women’s 1000 freestyle, outpacing the Aggies by two seconds for a first place with a time of 10:32.21. It is Agiomamitou’s second time this season earning first place in the event after winning previously in the home opener against Cal State East Bay and Fresno Pacific.

Senior Paige Sondgeroth swam in four events, featuring a first-place finish in the women’s 100 yard backstroke (1:03.58), 100 yard freestyle (51.69) and 200 yard IM (2:05.45). Sondgeroth was also a key contributor during the women’s 200 yard medley relay where the Tigers finished second in the meet’s opening event.

Pacific looks ahead to Senior Day tomorrow, facing off against Simon Fraser at 11 a.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center. The Tigers will be honoring 15 seniors throughout the meet.

“Tomorrow is going to be the true test for us, going into our fourth meet in two weeks,” Herrington said. “Simon Fraser has some fast swimmers, so we got to be ready.”
