Alex McMurry, from Huntersville, North Carolina, has made a verbally commitment to swim for the Virginia Tech H2Okies next year. “I chose Virginia Tech because of the excellent coaching staff, the strong team atmosphere, and the availability of world-class resources. I’m incredibly excited to be a Hokie and am looking forward to a successful 4 years, both athletically and academically!”
McMurry is a senior at William Amos Hough High School just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. He swims for SwimMAC Carolina year-round where he specializes in backstroke and freestyle. Last February at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships, McMurry contributed to the Huskies’ second-place team finish with a pair of sixths in the 50 free (21.65) and 100 back (50.87). He led off the 200 medley relay and anchored the 200 free relay. In club swimming, McMurry took 8th in the 100 back with a best time at the 2016 Speedo Winter Juniors East; he also improved his PB in the 50 back. The following weekend he lowered his times in the 50 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Virginia Tech really coming up with a strong class. 5 top 100 swimmers via college swimming, tied for second most only to Texas.
I don’t think that is correct. Cal has 5 of the top 13 and 7 of the top 100 according to College Swimming dot com. And Stanford has 5 of the top 50. And NC State has 5 of the top 100 as well…
Lasse Pittioni is a part of the 2016 class on Collegeswimming and is top-100, however he is apart of this 2017 class, and Tech had a guy move down to 101st as of right now. Point being, their class is becoming very strong.
Wasn’t questioning that Tech has a pretty good recruiting class this year; only your statement that it was the number or two class in the country. Not even close. Cal has 5 of the top 13. And that includes junior world champion Grieshop, American record holder Hoffer, and on and on. It potentially ranks as one of the best recruiting classes of all time. And Stanford’s haul has been pretty good as well.
